One of the problems with our ‘justice’ system is that if a business thinks you cheated them, it’s a criminal matter and the police will arrest you, but if a company rips YOU off, it’s a ‘civil’ matter and the police wont do squat.

I think the law enforcement involvement is only if the consumer can’t make it right. You can’t really arrest a company, but someone can surely sue. I agree with your point, I think this is more the explanation of why. The regular consumer may not be able to pay, but a company can pay out in a lawsuit to the consumer. In the consumers case, jail time is the equivalent.

I called Carvana a few weeks ago before I sold my old car. My circumstances were tough since I’m 19 and didn’t have much credit history and I also work 1099s (I have 3 streams of income however the most recent was doordash) but I asked them a million questions addressing my lack of credit history AND my income. I was told that credit would not be a problem and that I could refinance later, and they told me multiple times that as long as I provided bank statements that I would be able to purchase with them. Again I confirmed this information several times and they told me every time that I would be good. So I sold my car and went through the entire process, ordered the car, set a delivery date, SIGNED THE DOCUMENTS FOR THE CAR……. And it wasn’t until AFTER I’d finished the process as if the car was MINE, that they called me and told me they can’t accept my income. Turns out it was a blessing in disguise because I ended up buying a car from enterprise and it’s a newer car with less miles and over $100 LESS a month than what Carvana offered me🤷🏾♂️
@dylonn9082
2 жыл бұрын
They always tell you that you can refinance later in order to justify the enormous interest rate that they will get you. Plus if you’re already in a situation where you can only get that high interest rate it’s unlikely that a company will refinance your car in the future. Not only are income and credit used when refinancing but there are mile and year limits for the car as well. Always try to buy a car out right even if it’s not the one you want.

Most of the cars they sell are returned lease cars bought in auto auctions. This might be one of the reasons for the delay. Then I got Toyota Corolla that had a clean Carfax, but later it was discovered the car had been in an accident and repaired. A friend was a manager at a body shop, he uncovered it in five minutes. Carvana is supposed to examine the cars for issues, how did they miss it? I bought a third car, a Hyundai Tucson, this time I examined it closely, it had been repainted with a new clear coat that had "fisheye," in the paint where it had not been prepared properly before painting. To their credit, I had no issues getting my money back. Would I buy from them again? No.

This doesnt surprise me. I have been in the auto sales industry for almost 20 years. Anytime we ship a car out of state its a nightmare for the dealer and the customer. Every state DMV operates independently and has different rules and guidelines. One missing signature, or document can send your application back. I can imaging with thousands of cars sold each month their title and reg department is a complete sh*t show. Given that almost all DMV offices in 50 states require wet signatures on documents, not sure how companies like Carvana are able to complete the correct transfer paperwork with a remote sale. Although I love the idea of online auto sales, the process will quickly get sidelined by government regulations. Oh well

It really isn’t that difficult. Don’t list the car for sale until you have the title in hand. Problem solved. I used to work for Carmax and that was our policy. And we have power of attorneys for both the seller and the buyer signed in case there is an issue.

I traded my 14mpg 4wd Tundra in for a more fuel efficient Lexus ES350 via Carvana. It was low miles(80k) and they gave me $20k for the truck, like 5k more than any other dealer. Truck was 10 years old with only 80k miles, but had peeling clear coat in a couple spots, worn tires, some seriously squeaky suspension/ball joints and was a base model with the small V8. FYI I bought the truck for 20k like 3 years prior. Lexus was about the same price, so it was almost a straight trade. I noticed a bit of paint work on the Lexus on the rear quarter, but it was a good color match and I pulled the carpet in the trunk and it looked factory straight. If I had just flat out bought the car I might have been a bit peeved, but I feel like I pulled one over on them dumping that truck on them.

I bought my VW SUV from Carvana in 2019, and the transaction mostly went well. I received the title and new tag in about 30 days. There was a dent on the side of the front passenger door, which was not listed on the sales listing. I pointed this out on the day that I picked up the car, and they filed a repair reimbursement request for $300. I had a check from them within a week, and had the dent repaired by a great local PDR technician for $150. About 1 month after receiving the title and new tag, I received another check from Carvana for $338 refunding unused tag and title fees. At that point I was pretty happy with them. The car has been great to this day. Either I was one of the lucky customers, or things have gotten much worse at Carvana.

In Texas if you’re a dealer the title is not handed to the customer the day of sale. The title goes to the dmv and the dealer transfers it. Then the state mails the customer the title. This only applies to cash sales if sales are financed then the title will go to the finance company.

Dealerships, including Carvana don't actually pay cash for the vehicles they're purchasing. they essentially have a line of credit to purchase vehicles, the company who extends the line of credit holds onto the titles until the dealership pays back that amount owed for that vehicle. when there are cashflow issues, dealers can take the funds from a sale and instead of using those funds to pay off the amount owed for the sold car so the title can be cleared and sent to the new owner, they use it for new purchases and expenses so they can keep the lights on and business operating. In addition to this, if a dealership purchases a vehicle with a lien on it, they have to wait for the title to arrive from the lender who is releasing the lien, many times dealers sell the vehicles prior to actually receiving the title.

I think you are referring to flooring. Upon sale of any floored unit the flooring is paid. If not you will not be flooring your inventory much longer. Flooring companies, in our case Bank of America come often , very often and audit our inventory. Not sure how the company your referring to manages to not pay their flooring. And our flooring company does not hold any titles. Unless the funded the loan for the retail sale, which is not looking. Flooring is against our credit. Funding a loan is on customers credit. That’s for brand new inventory. Wholesale is different, we buy and pay at auction or whatever we cannot take car w/o paying the auction who is then responsible for producing and delivering a title to us. Very often delayed. And don’t forget trade ins. We pay for those as well, and surprise the condition of the vehicle and related paperwork is usually a nightmare. Regarding vehicles with liens, your correct we wait for title from whatever lender we paid off. If we did not then every car traded in would need to be paid in full for customer to have title in hand. Not gonna happen. And if we waited for every title to arrive to sell a car, we’d be out of business. Inventory costs money every day it’s on the lit. But you also have the option to buy something else that does have title in jacket.

Thats just not true. American companies are forced to do business with laws, the US has some of the best consumer protections in the world. The US is the home of the class action lawsuit. Non-western countries are horrific, they still have slavery, child labour, and most businesses are owned by corrupt politicians and their cronies. You can look up the corruption index, best countries are western countries like the US. Worst countries are non-western countries.

I had the best experience ever buying a car from Carvana. I bought my car in the fall of 2020. The experience was so much better than buying either new or used from regular dealers. I got my title in the mail about two weeks after the sale. Now 1.5 years later, I still love the Toyota I bought from Carvana. I feel bad for this guy and all the others who have had problems with Carvana. I hope that Carvana gets its act together because when it works it is so much better than traditional dealers.

It's easy tho solve. If they don't give you the title, stop paying the loan back and lock the car in a secure place so they can't repo it. I'll bet the bank will get you the title as the sale was illegal..

Actually it depends on the state you’re in. Most states actually require that you don’t hold the title until you fully pay it off. Meaning if you’re not in one of those few states that lets you hold it, the bank or financial entity you’re paying your loans to owns the vehicle and the title. And holding the vehicle hostage w/o paying for it is illegal…then the repo man would get the police involved. The guy in the video fully paid for his vehicle, so the problem was with the DMV since his title was held up and Carvana processed it with the DMV for him.

I used to work at a Toyota dealership so I can explain how and why this happens. Carvana is purchasing vehicles from customers without a proper and clear title. The vast majority of the time there is a lien holder on the title that must be cleared in order for Carvana to get a clean title for the new customer and many things can hold up this process. This is the fault of Carvana's internal policies though. They cited the 30 day rule they have and they have implemented this in their policies of title transfer and this is why things are as messed up as they are because they are jumping the gun on the resale too fast because they assume they have an extra 30 days to get the title, but this is a large company and we all know the larger you are the more disorganized you are. Many times it takes the dealer months to get a clean title as other parties can drop the ball as well.

Working at a large Honda dealership, customers would occasionally tell us how much more Carvana is giving them for their trade-ins. But I always wondered how they did it, if actually true. And the fact is that their delay tactics are a way of playing with House money... They delay in paying off liens, in getting people their titles, shoddy re-conditioning, etc. It all makes more sense to me now.

Could be the company diminishing in quality from expanding too quickly or this is just a one off case ripe for views. I bought a car from Carvana in 2019 in socal. Delivery process was smooth. Paid it off in 2021, received the title shortly after. Each time I called customer service they were extremely polite and helpful. 30k miles later, car is still in excellent condition.

Most people don't take care of their vehicles properly & drive them like they are running from a felony. Thus, most used cars are crap. So, never buy one without a very good in-person & professional inspection from someone you trust. End of story.

I've been reading a lot of car forums where people have an issue with their car that may not be obvious in basic inspection and they sell it to carvana since they are offering the most $. For example a noise / rattle that happens at a certain speed, burning oil, intermittent electronic problems that the dealership/mechanic can't diagnose. They get fed up with it and pawn it off on Carvana for the next person to get stuck with. Its not right but the way they see it they are only losing 1k after 3 years of ownership and no longer have to deal with the problem and end up with most of the money needed to get a new car.

I used to work for Carvana in Blue Mound, Texas , right outside of Saginaw, Texas. Cars got stolen and taken home every day. People would come to work from 9 pm till 5 am. Some of those ppl would take the carvana cars, drive them to Dallas strip clubs, do drug deals and go home for several hours and return to work. They give each employee their own dealers tag and that's why it was possible. I would never purchase a car from Carvana. People smoke in them, have sex in them and drive the cars really hard and put miles on the cars that aren't listed on the website. Don't believe me, when you go to the website, look at the mileage the site says that car has and when you get it, look at the odometer. It's a guarantee.

I actually just purchased a vehicle 2 months ago and the very first place I checked out was Carvana. I really wanted to buy my new car from a vending machine and I lived close enough to one that I could have physically been there for the show. Unfortunately, once I was told that I could not test drive anything and they had a "gracious" 7 day grace period...I walked. It also didn't help matters that their selection was terrible. What a waste of time that was. I wound up calling Carmax and let me tell you they are fantastic. Not only did they have the types of cars I was looking for (fast American muscle), they let me test drive it for a full 24 hours, and it came with a 1 month grace period. During said grace period I could return the car for a full refund and they would fix any issues for free. I wound up getting a Stinger Yellow Dodge Challenger RT Classic with every option and the car ended up having a strange brake issue that they fixed in 3 days flat. They upgraded my brakes from the standard Dodge setup to 14 inch slotted Brembo brakes for free. I paid 27k for the car it had 53k miles on her with a full 150,000 mile warranty for good measure. That's what I'm talking about.
