Oh no!!! At @ I say "one times anything is one", which is a horrendous misspeak on my part! I should have said "anything times one is itself", as here, three times one remains three. Sorry!

Professor Dave, I’ve got a question, if it’s multiplying and dividing by fractions. Then shouldn’t the answer for no.1 problem be (2/9)(11/4) since it’s a fraction? That 11 which is the dividend is greater than the divisor which is a fraction. Then you could simplify it by (22/32)=(11/16) instead of the solution (8/99)? I apologize if my question is a bit silly. But I have a tiny trouble understanding why the answer is (8/99).
@Alex-02

The two fractions are MULTIPLIED by each other, you should only switch like that if they are divided by each other. If it looked like this: (2/9)/(11/4) you would be correct, but the actual problem looks like this: (2/9)x(11/4)

Here's a tip, if you see two parentheses like this: (7)(9)=63 or like this: (7)9=63, the operation is always multiplication. The x sign of multiplication is rarely used as you move on to advance math because it looks like the variable x which causes confusion.

@loopedspaces4389
Жыл бұрын
(3/10)(5/4) would be 15/40 which you can further simplify by dividing 15 and 40 by their gcf which is 5 so, 15•5= 3 and 40•5 is 8 hence 3/8
@mindaugasanuzis9802
Жыл бұрын
That's 3/10 * 5/4, so answer is 15/40 -> 3/8. I made the same mistake like you (didn't notice there is no division symbol).

@ProfessorDaveExplains

that's pretty complicated stuff! when we get to geometry it will just be normal euclidian geometry that you learn in high school, and then back to more algebra, then trigonometry, then calculus. but after calculus it will become a grab bag of advanced topics so i will definitely try to hit all that stuff then!

Yes, but you can simplify 15/40 further by dividing both the numerator and the denominator by 5. 15/5 is 3, and 40/5 is 8, so the fraction becomes 3/8.
