Here are some easy steps to grow kalanchoe cutting in water-
1. Choose some healthy cutting, free from diseases and pests.
2. Cut about 3-5 inch stem using clean scissors or blade and remove the bottom-most leaves of the cutting.
3. Take a jar or transparent disposable glass and completely fill it with water.
4. Cover the glass with transparent polythene and tie it with a rubber band. This will maintain a uniform level of water in the jar for a longer and avoid frequent watering in it.
5. Make holes (as per the number of cuttings) using any needle or pin on polythene, and Insert these cuttings into a container through the holes provided on polythene. Ensure that at least a couple of nodes are submerged in water.
7. Keep in bright indirect sunlight until root formation.
8. After 4-5 days root formation will start in water, but ensure to keep them for a few more days.
9. Stir the water in the jar to keep it oxygenated or change the water after 5-6 days to keep it clean and oxygenated.
10. Once roots are about 2-3 inches long, get ready to transplant the cutting into the soil.
Plantation and care of Kalanchoe plant:
Choose any normal well-draining garden soil with or without compost and plant these rooted cuttings into soil covering the rooted area, water thoroughly. Kalanchoe generally thrives well in bright indirect sunlight so keep them in bright indirect sunlight or in a semi-shaded area.
When the plant becomes 6-7 inches long, prune the upper branches to get a bushy plant. Generally, the kalanchoe flower plant doesn't require any compost but feeds a small amount of any organic fertilizer once a month, which may add extra benefits to the plant.
Kalanchoe plant is a winter-loving and relatively low-maintenance plant but ensure it's not exposed to frost, and avoid overwatering as it can lead to root rot. With proper care, your Kalanchoe should thrive well through the year and produce vibrant blooms.
