I think she makes some valid points but I think her worldview that posits that white men have a monopoly on racism and anyone who expresses concern around children transitioning is transphobic are both problematic views. Munroe @16:10 - "I got mistook for a girl all the time on holiday." This throws up another other issue. If you are genuinely female, when does that begin - once your physical body has been modified? Were they correctly gendering you as a girl on holiday and if so what was mistaken? Didn't they see the real you? She describes offhandedly being viewed as a girl 'all the time' on holidays in the context of describing her struggle, when that's surely an early victory in her 'journey'?

As a trans guy myself, it is a bit of an early victory once you grow up and realise how people misgendered you as a kid. For me, I was always taken as a boy. There was a part of me that always wanted to be a boy, but as Munroe explained, we didn't have the language to understand why we expressed ourselves as masculine nor feminine, so we just repressed our feelings when expressing ourselves as masc or fem was an early start of our transition. However, because we didn't know what transness was and we were too young to understand our own feelings, we would immediately frown at the idea of being seen as anything other than the gender our parents assigned to us. Once we're older, we start feeling a bit happier, but the start of our transition is really confusing because it's reckoning with ourselves and knowing that people will find us strange.

I've not seen any hatred towards her based on a prejudice of her as trans , or any racism , or mysogony or anything like That. Only people calling her out , quite correctly, for her own hateful, abhorrent, racist ,sexist hypocritical views. Views that she is utterly unapologetic for and has reiterated here. If we are ever going to reach a point where we can all get on as equals , then unsurprisingly, the rules we apply societally must be applied equally, regardless of race , gender, religion, sexual preference etc. She gets no special treatment , she spews bigotry, she gets called out for it, same as anyone else. She has abhorrant views. And unsurprisingly, they make people angry. That's what your seeing, you're asking for people to show respect towards someone , who has just shown the most breathtaking disrespect to an entire race of people , and used the most derogatory , bigoted language to discriminate every single one of those people , based on the colour of their skin. She's a hateful person with a toxic ideology. And she asks for us to join in in the condemnation of every single last white person on the planet as the evil, oppressive and inherently racist people that they are. And she does this , unironically, from the position of absolute privalege that has seen her have the media give her endless airtime , tv chat shows, the news , newspapers magazines , all have happily given her a platform, the industry that has made her very affluent, and seen her become a top model for loreal, with the Labour party giving her a very influential position of power as advisor to the leader of the party..... and all of those things she did whilst claiming there are white people , misogynistic , racist, transphobic , sexist, bigoted oppressors who , through their positions of power, and heirarchical structures that serve only other whites , particularly males (it being the patriarchy it is ), and are a force for evil in their oppression of people such as herself. And ALL white people have this inherent evil in them .... ALL of them. .... can you see how maybe , just maybe , she's not going about things the right way if respect is what she's after? She's a bigot, she has abhorrant views. She doesn't get any respect from me and certainly doesn't get any special privaleges because of her gender identity or her ethnicity, she gets exactly the same from me as anyone else who spews hateful bigotry, my absolute condemnation.

I seriously dislike Bergdorf - she is bigoted, resentful, and is utterly counterproductive to social liberalism. But calling her a man is equally as foolish as the message she promulgates. If she wants to be called a woman, call her a woman - it's courtesy. If Christian wants to be called Chris, call him Chris, if Alexander wants to be called Alex, call him Alex - it's simple courtesy. Biological technicality or the technicality of one's birth certificate is no reason not to afford one the decency of referring to people by their preferred titles. Obviously it does not mean we have to reject science and literally believe Bergdorf is an "XX" person rather than an "XY" person - but surely we can all be decent and strong enough to simply show basic respect to one another.

What is amazing about this conversation, in general, but also this particular conversation, is that trans people, people of color, or others that are represented by Munroe here are simply striving to achieve the same level of respect and happiness as anyone else. They aren't trying to take anything away from anyone by theft or seizure or by making laws that empower them by diminishing the power of others. There is nothing about them, their existence, or what they are asking for that is harmful - unless of course you acknowledge the primacy and power that white men enjoy (I am a white cis-gender man, for the record). So if you feel attacked or feel that you are losing something because people that aren't like you are asking for power, then you can't, at the same time, say that institutional structures of oppression aren't real... The only "harm" that comes from plurality of gender and sharing of power is that white men, followed by white women, have less of it. They are "harmed" or "under attack" simple because they currently have power and would have to share it. I think that she's well spoken and articulate about these issues and I'm glad she's speaking about them. The conversation about racism and about gender is complex and difficult to navigate. She helps make sense of the issues in a way that isn't attacking anyone, at least not if you really listen to what she's saying. And for those that insist on referring to Munroe as "he" - what is the difference if Munroe expresses a female gender and refers to herself with female pronouns she/her/hers/herself, etc? Like, who cares? What harm does it bring you to call her "her" or refer to her as "she"? It makes no sense.
@Suninrags
5 жыл бұрын
My issue with Munroe is that in some of their previous works they said "Racism is inherent to white people" . This statement is factually wrong HUMANS are all capable of racism. Our tribal nature makes us feel distrust or unease against minorities and I dont mean minority as non white I mean it in the literal sense. I grew up in an area in the united states in CA where the majority of the people in my school were Hispanic and I was made fun of and beaten up by people for being white because in that environment I was a minority . People like Monroe want to take a step even further than equality if you look at some of the things they said in the past would be clear as day. Munroe does not strive for equality she simply will cause it to change roles. FINAL NOTE: I am equally as critical of the extreme right leaning ideology and would say the same to them. When ever I try to express my views to either side I get pinned into their opposing ideology

Activism is targeting to destroy the demographic who created Western civilization. It is Marxism of the oppressor versus the oppressed in a Hegelian dialectic struggle for existence, and supposedly the repeated generational cycles of "change for change sake" which include lots of law making that bans traditions thousands of years old, seeding linguistic territory to enemies of the state, and so on, is in theory supposed to create a Utopia on Earth. In the prior century, the 1900s, such culture clashes have seen many tens of millions of people wiped from existence who did not support some of this mindless upheaval. The innocent victims of socialism were non-compliant intellectuals, farmers, industrial leaders, logistics people, etc, who produced all of the goods and services needed to support civilization, all of whom were very productive worker and professional class people--many of them killed for no real reasons. The middle class seem always to be loathed by the elite at the top who are calling the shots. Science. Biology. Biochemistry. Facts. Industrial pollutants have been deliberately poured into our environment to cause trouble and levels of these toxins were lobbied every few years to double. When these toxins find their way into young women in their child bearing age, if they do become pregnant, some of these chemicals are reagents that trigger cellular development that otherwise would not naturally have happened by altering in various ways development of internal organs such as the brain. When one's brain development is taken off of its natural developmental course rare abnormalities become much more common place as higher and higher concentrations of these chemical agents build up in our environment. Getting rid of these toxins is like getting toothpaste back in the tube once it has been all squirted out of the toothpaste tube--not impossible to do, but extremely costly so much so when people are having a hard time economically with providing for their living standard to be at tolerable levels at the same time as supporting through their high taxation rates people of unfortunate circumstances--poverty, low abilities to do general problem solving for both themselves, their communities, and the world at large. Scientist know very well that hormones are catalytic chemical agents that affect cellular growth in living things. Hormones can be at levels too high or blocked and be too low as compared with what they should naturally be (if there had been no such pollution contaminating everyone's bodies). Medicine is a racket and is controlled by people with money making in their thoughts. It is an opportunistic situation in which we find ourselves when fads of feelings and emotions of young people growing up are uncomfortable with the changes that necessarily come with puberty and growth into adulthood that brings with it higher responsibilities such as making a life for themselves outside their parent's home, etc. Societal development has punished those who exhibit traditionally male strengths such as doing tough or complicated mechanical or electrical industrial tasks that often can be scaled by greater levels of technological automation. As such society has been favoring females more and more each decade. Psychopathy is being taught to our school children as being favorable. More people than I would like I have recently encountered who are extremely selfish and consume more than their fair share. To me, they are exhibiting various levels of narcissism. Web quotation/ Narcissistic personality disorder - one of several types of personality disorders - is a mental condition in which people have an inflated sense of their own importance, a deep need for excessive attention and admiration, troubled relationships, and a lack of empathy for others. /End web quotation.

Well, yeah, it's a historical context insofar as it's a statement about the past, what I meant was that he doesn't mention anything in that statement that specifies historical events, their details , specifics like dates and people's actions etc , so I couldn't really grasp what you were refuting, when there was no information to refute. Unless youre refuting the historical legitimacy of colonialism , as an aevent that happened historically begining at a none specified point in time, im pretty sure we can safely say that happened though. Other than that the only other thing he said was that perhaps environmental factors played a part in the pace of advancements in Europe. I wouldn't call that unreasonable , it's almost certainly true so if I'm honest I sti don't get where your coming from. You concede yourself that it was a factor , just one of many , so if it's such an unreasonable view why are you agreeing? Because he never said it was the only factor, he said it was an advantage. That's perfectly reasonable. Feel free to explain what other factors contributed though.

Europe and Hospitable climates ?? Cold ,isolated , desolate and harsh ?? You're insane , it wasn't hospitable at all and I don't see anything wrong with colonialism, it was just the strong exploiting the weak , isn't that what nature is all about ?? It has been that way for thousands of years , people should seriously stop whining about the past and work towards building a better future . And plz don't call me racist , I'm an Indian , my country was colonised for over 400 years and I don't feel exploited or discriminated against in any way whatsoever , we were colonised coz we were weak and stupid , it's as simple as that
You know what, Morgan Freeman once said that the only way we could get rid of racism and discrimination is just stop talking about, he’ll stop calling the interviewer (Mike Wallace) a white man, and Wallace would stop calling Freeman a black man, instead calling each other by their name. This insufferable creature can’t seem to have a simple conversation without even mentioning the word “race” or the colour of someone’s skin, and until we stop talking about, racism is never going to go. I’m not suggesting we deny it exists and not say it’s not real, just stop making a big issue of it, FFS

There is a fundamental issue that is not discussed here and that is medical advancement is the enabler to change ones gender and appearance, without that transgender people would mostly go unrecognised in society and only those close to them would know how they feel, so as medical advancement continues in hormone, genetic modification and chemical treatments, combined with cosmetic surgery. Who gains from this other than the private clinics and the doctors and surgeons world wide that treat people with medical alterations for gender. Without those treatments monroe would still look like a guy he may feel that he is a women but without medical intervention he would not appear to be female. It is freedom of choice but people are genuinely open to exploitation by the medical world globally offering gender changing treatments and surgeries. He must be careful not to become a beacon for often dangerous and inappropriate medical interventions on vulnerable and young people it just adds another layer of potential misery to what many professional medical practitioners claim is a psychological issue. This is a personal thing and becoming a poster boy for the transgender movement is more than likely as with many young people in the public eye motivated by money and fame and i am sure the private medical world would welcome his fame to fill their pockets with the next new thing they can cut off stick on or change.

So much truth spoken here, Munroe is a visionary in terms of where society is heading. I urge anyone who wants to learn more or is unsure on how to feel to read up on British colonialism for some context of what she means when she says 'all white people benefit from racism'. And to not take it as an attack, but an opportunity to better your understanding and actively be anti-racist. @@theyisgrove I'm a white Irish person from Belfast. How exactly did me or my ancestors benefit from colonialism? Was it when Cromwell (Britain's first major imperialist) invaded Ireland, slaughtered half the Irish population and enslaved tens of thousands of us? Was it during the 200 years of penal laws here where we'd be hanged or shipped off to Australia just for speaking our native language, attending Catholic mass or owning land? Was it when most of our population were forced into a tenant farming system that made us dependent on one crop to survive whilst everything else we grew was taken away from us and sold by Britain, even after Britain brought a disease that killed that one crop causing a famine that killed 1.5 million of us and caused 2 million more to flee the country? Was it in the multiple rebellions we had to fight for at least a part of Ireland to get independence and be able to make their own laws and govern themselves? Was it when our country was partitioned in order to benefit the descendants of British settlers in Ireland? Was it from 1969 to 1998 when we suffered military occupation and almost daily murders by loyalist paramilitaries in a war that started all because they refused to give us voting and housing rights?

@@aaronconlon3880 A good point, and thanks for educating me on this. I believe people of colour and Irish folk very much have a shared struggle in the sense of suffering colonialist brutalities, and that is reflected in the strong friendships forged between our communities in the years you've mentioned. But, that said, you still benefit from having your skin colour. Imagine, with all the pain & suffering from your ancestry, you also had black skin. Would it be the same or worse do you think? I am not trying to take away from any of what you said, more reach a mutual understanding.

Are you watching the same videos of her as everybody else? She's from an upper-middle class family, went to one of the top private schools in the country, had her university tuition paid entirely by her parents and has never had to work an actual job. Yet at one point she had the nerve to claim that white homeless people don't have it that bad compared to people of colour in Britain including her. During one of her videos she did for the BBC she stated that white people are racist from the moment they're born and nothing they do in life can stop them from being racist. She even said that there are too many monuments to remember British soldiers who died in the World Wars and not enough to commemorate slavery, despite the fact that there are monuments to slavery in nearly every major city in the UK. She's a spoilt, delusional racist that's convinced herself she's living under some form of Apartheid to justify her own ignorance towards other people.

@@Caotic3 Well she's pretending to be a victim because she got fired by L'Oreal for saying on Twitter that all white people were racists and white supremacists no matter what they do. She then doubled down on this when she made a video for the BBC where she stated that white people are racist from the day they're born. During that video she also pissed more people off by saying Britain has too many monuments for the soldiers that died in the World Wars and not enough for the victims of slavery even though every major city in the UK has a monument to remember slavery. Then in another interview when she refused to move on from the topic of slavery she was confronted with the fact that slavery has been illegal in Britain for roughly 200 years, in that time Britain has done more than any other nation on the planet to combat slavery and there are more slaves in the Indian subcontinent today than there ever were in the British Empire, which she responded to with an incoherent rant about how the man interviewing her was just a closet racist "who can't accept the truth".
