We now move into our first of seven categories where the translators of the English Qur'an made terrible translations; namely the clumsy and inept mistakes they made when trying to translate the Arabic words into English.
Murad gave 4 examples of these clumsy mistakes, including:
1) Surah 29:14 where the words 'aiman' and 'sanat' were both translated by everyone of the English translators as "years". Murad said that it was easy to see that the two words were quite different, so why did the translators give them the same meaning? He said that the word 'aiman' really means 'seasons' of the harvest, and reminded us that years is much longer than seasons, as there are multiple seasons in each year. This, he claimed was a clumsy mistake.
2) Surah 28:27 where the Arabic word was "Hajjaj", translated by almost every translator as 'year'. But Hajjaj is the plural form of Hajj, which always means 'pilgrimage', so the plural form is simply 'pilgrimages', and not 'years'. Only Pickthall got that translation correct.
3) Surah 7:38 where every translator translated the amount of torment of those in hell as simply "double", or "multiplied". Yet that same word in Surah 33:68 is in the plural form, so it should be 2X2, or quadrupled. Yet, every translator referred to it as simply "double", just like in Surah 7:38, proving that they are either inept, or just lazy.
4) Surah 12:42 where the word 'baduah' is translated as "several years" which Joseph remained in prison. Then in Surah 30:4 the exact same word is translated as "3 to 9 years". Did the meaning suddenly change from several to 3-9? Did the translators forget, or did they simply not care, and were just lazy again, or did they do this intentionally so that the Qur'an states a prophecy in line with the Biblical account?
From these 4 examples we can see a pattern begin to appear, showing that modern day translators of the Qur'an into English either are lazy, or they are clumsy and possibly even inept in their application of their translations.
