Sri Lanka spin wizard Muttiah Muralitharan and left-arm swing Bowler Chaminda Vaas ran through Australian batting lineup twice to grab Sri Lanka the first Test victory against the new crowned World Champions in 1999. Australia lost their first wicket in the second ball of the game. Ricky Ponting showed some resistance to Sri Lankan bowling in both the innings. Mark Waugh recorded his fifth duck in Sri Lanka in his sixth inning. Muralitharan and Vaas gave very little space to Australian batsmen who mostly struggled. This test match was also famous due to the collision Steve Waugh and Jason Gillespie had which resulted both being absent during the second innings.
