‘Intimate knowledge and fertile silences’
Nine people were arrested by the Kenyan Police for questioning over the murder of Dr Robert Ouko, Kenya’s Minister of Foreign Affairs (an interview with Nicholas Biwott tells of his time in prison). They were all released but one, Jonah Anguka, the District Commissioner for Nukru, who was re-arrested and charged. Ultimately Anguka was found “not guilty” and later wrote the book Absolute Power protesting his innocence. But what did Anguka know and what did he hide? And what of James Onyango K’Oyoo, Ouko’s ‘friend’ and youth campaigner, now a Member of Parliament? How did K’Oyoo, a sacked personnel clerk, afford a holiday to Geneva and London? And where was K’Oyoo on the 13th February, 1990, the day that Robert Ouko was murdered?
