Can I just say, this is an amazing thing you are doing. Over the years I've spent a lot of time trying (unsuccessfully )to remove the vocals from my favorite songs, so I could sing my own version. I am also following your guitar lessons, as a lot of songs are just too difficult for me to figure out on my own. Thank you so much for dedicating your time to producing these videos for strangers like me on the internet. Your efforts are much appreciated!! (Also, I appreciate that you seemed to intuit my Aurora obsession). haha

I love this comment so much! Thank you! No matter what goes on in your life, it means the world to know you do something positive for someone else, even if that something is just some low quality KZitem videos. And as for the Aurora obsession, I didn't really have a choice in the matter, since I only did the next thing someone requested. But I'm certainly not complaining. She's a wonderful artist!

The 1s are so inaudible... Sounds good but horribly difficult to sync well since no real rythmic...
@SyncopatedProgress
6 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's really a good exercise for your ears. One way to practice it would be to tap your foot on quarter notes (1-2-3-4) and count out aloud (1231231231231212). Then you'll probably get more comfortable with this particular polyrhythm. Or just listen to the original Tiny Desk-version.
@SyncopatedProgress
6 жыл бұрын
If I remember correctly, I spent the first part of my guitar lesson explaining this rhythhm, so that might be of help as well.
@SamraK64
6 жыл бұрын
I kinda know all that, I actually have the pretention to call myself a trained musician, and have no problem with the actual rythm of the song as it is. I am merely pointing out the fact that in your version the first time note (sry dont have the full english vocab) is even less audible than the ones before and after, its the way guitar easily sounds when your get the hand "rolling" motion without particularly marking the first time (which the original version's guitarist does); it would be no problem if there was any kind of percussion section or even a mixed instrument like bass, but there aren't. That makes it harder to instinctively highlight rythms as a singer, and moreover it makes the guitar slightly out of rythm in some parts of the melody (which again sounds fine but is not quite practical). I know how hard it is to record a perfect version of such a one-instrument backing track, I think that the mistake you did, that was the hardest to avoid in that case, was recording it as a guitar song, sounding good on its own, though it is not supposed to do that but to lay a comfortable background for the singing. Anyway I'm pretty sure the original version was recorded live, with Aurora and the guitar able to interact and sync to one another (almost impossible to record a good track of that kind otherwise). In any case thank you for your work, it is better to have a rough instrumental than none (and again I don't think I could have done it any better) Thank you also for being so responsive, hope you find some interest in my opinion :)
@SyncopatedProgress

Your inpout is highly valued! And I just realised that I was referring to Running With the Wolves, so my last two comments can be discarded. Yeah, that's the trouble with using live recordings. When I record, I'm having the original live recording in my ears, and just play along, but what you can't reproduce is the interaction. As for the lack of emphasis on the one, I think I'll blame it primarily on the fact that it was recorded with a slightly outdated phone which had a hard time picking up the bass notes. But my perfomance is far from perfect, that's for sure. But I'm getting better :)
@SamraK64

That was exactly what I was about to add as well, about bass frequencies :) I play acoustic bass if you ever wanna record a more complete, interactive, great-sounding version :p
