Master entertainer singer songwriter Mel Tillis has passed away. Mel and his legendary band, The Statesiders, were the REAL DEAL. R.I.P. Mel and Thanks for the great music.

kibelglime, thanks for your comment and tribute to Mel Tillis.....for it might take some time the folks in Heaven to get used to Mel when he is talking.....but it won't take any time for them to fall in love with his music....cuz like many of the musicians back in the day....Mel sang the music he wrote....and we at ImaSportsphile have literally 100s of vintage music videos of folks who wrote and sang their own music already posted on our site.

I just love, love, love this Austin City Limits concert with Mel & his then fabulous band, the Statesiders! You can see it in their faces when they're playing that they love what they do & love to entertain. I recorded this from T.V. back then & it came out good, but I still love seeing the video & watching them perform. All the songs are great, too! I watch this often & sing along with Mel!

Mel Tillis put on one of the best 2 Concerts I've been to & if he wasn't a singer he could have made it as a comedian because he was very good at making the Audience bust up laughing & the Statesiders also were funny. The other best Concert was Neil Diamond

Do you have the full Mel Tillis Austin City Limits performance from 1980? It has the Austin City Limits Season 5 opening sequence, as well as Lickona's introduction. After the credits, Tillis opens the show with "Stay All Night, Stay a Little Longer". Next, he performs "Burning Memories", as well as "Good Woman Blues", and "I Got the Hoss and She Got the Saddle". Next, Tillis performs "Coca-Cola Cowboy", as well as "Ruby". After that, he performs "Orange Blossom Special". Tillis closed the show with a medley of songs, such as "One More Drink", "I Wanna Go Stateside", and "I Ain't Never Seen Nobody Like You". After that, the band credits appear onscreen, and fades out to black.🙂

The backing vocals are Jordanaires-caliber. Really smooth.
