I really adore how much the music of ultrakill is used to reflect the lore and story of the world. Like he said, “War” in sections reflects a feeling similar to music that plays when hero’s in a movie know they are about to enter a loosing battle or general futile fighting. But he also mentions in parts there is hope/perseverance even still knowing there will be a loss. Such as in the lore of Sisyphus in the game. Having to fight a futile war knowing fully he will lose but preserving for the sake of living fully

I would recommend checking out Ultrakill OST Versus and Duel side by side. Versus plays during a bossfight with a certain robot, that represents a better version of you, but if you beat it, you meet it down the line again, wanting revenge. Thats where Duel comes in. The songs are the same, but different, and I think it would be fun to compare the two, from the point of how they change and what they represent. And also, they are absolute bangers of battle music. Also, if you make the video in the future and wanted to add one more song to the list, I would humbly suggest Castle Vein. It's a great baroque-rock-style song.

Ultrakill _is_ intense. The music is fitting for the gameplay. I once heard it described as _ADHD: the game._ And there is some validity in saying that; while I am not fond of cheapening an actual disorder to explain the absolute mass of activity your mind is flooded with, to the point you _do_ have attention deficit of some degree, the absolute hyperactive nature of this game makes the player act at 100 miles per hour. So no, there isn't any reason why you should quit calling this music *intense* for a moment. _Any_ moment. Because every moment in this game's campaign is intended to be exceptionally thrilling. People don't play Ultrakill to be bored; on the contrary, people play the game to _Ultrakill_ their boredom. Hence, why the music, the visuals, the gameplay, the _whole thing_ is an exercise in ceaseless intensity stopped only when your body can no longer deal with it.

Pandemonium can be used as a good comparison piece to Chaos. Each one is the theme for the flesh prison bosses for the secret boss level of the two acts. The whole point of the flesh Prison, and it's follow-up the flesh Panopticon, is that they are organic machines made of both divine and hell energy that has no consciousness and acts purely on instinct to prevent the imprisoned Prime Soul from being released. By comparison to Chaos, Pandemonium is slightly more structured and held together, just as the panopticon is compared to the prison (until sisyphus just busts himself out of it but that's not important right now)

ULTRAKILL SPOILERS AHEAD: That "Wibbly-wobbly" end at the end of pandemonium was for a very good reason. It represents the complete change of pace in your fight ingame: Instead of killing the flesh panopticon through traditional means, you simply wake up Sisyphus and he (in the most literal sense) breaks out. Tearing it to pieces from the inside out. The prison wasn't containing him, simply... "Homing" him. That end of the music represents this in the players incredible confusion as they see the healthbar sink to nothing.

Your analysis of War really hits home. Especially the part about characters fighting a battle they're going to lose. Re: War, your notes about futility and hope are very appropriate - it's the theme of Sisyphus, who *almost* successfully rebelled against heaven in this setting. It's cool that Hakita put that in, and just as cool that you picked up on it. Suggestion: To The Edge, from FFXIV - I won't spoil the context, but the composer, Soken, does like his clever composition, and the context is a throwback to early FF games. the part at 23:10 is the leitmotif of sands of tide, the song which happens at level 4-2 in the game. this is a reference to where Sisyphus prime (with this song being his boss theme) was sent for his punishment and where most of the important things in his lore happening, further connecting him to the 4th layer of dante's hell

as a person who grew up listening to classical music the organ is one of my favorite instruments but as I grew up I would grow to love rock as well and definitely got into metal as a teenager and still love it even now so to hear that first track combining my first 2 musical loves, IT WAS AMAZING! to me it did not feel like it was too much it felt just right to me and I am very impressed, you are not wrong to call the composer a genius for it to know both genres so well to combine them that masterfully is no small feat and this can be said of the other songs as well, I'm going to have to checkout not just this soundtrack but everything he has done after this, I thank you once again for this video and for exposing me to this music I would have otherwise never heard

My absolute favorite thing about the Sands of Tide motif in War is how it rises and begins to build but then the harmony cuts out and it falls right back to the beginning. Just like a certain king who's life is defined by futile struggle.

i think you should try out "the abyss and the serpent" next a slightly underrated one from the soundtrack (also "altars of apostasy", another great one)

The ULTRAKILL soundtrack is so full of amazing stuff, you could probably make two more videos like this one, maybe even three, without any drop in the intensity and power these songs possess. For specific requests, Altars of Apostasy + Halls of Sacrilegious Remains is one I'd love to hear since you liked Castle Vein so much. Other than that, there's also the two songs that the main themes of Order and War bortow motifs from, which are Requiem and Sands of Tide, and I'd love to hear you listen to how those motifs are in the original songs and deconstruct how they sound compared to the boss versions and how different they feel. There's also Death Odyssey because its just a fucking banger of a song. Finally, you could make one video covering all of Gabriel's themes, which are Bach 18: I Call to You, Lord Jesus Christ (you don't have to listen to that one if you already know it), Divine Intervention, Fallen Angel, and The Death of God's Will. Those should be listened to all in a row IMO. As a bonus, if you get the OST via Bandcamp, you can read developer commentary from the game's composer regarding almost every song on the OST (the songs for the prime sanctums were released for free and so don't have commentary, but all others have a paragraph or more written about how they were made).

Hey there, just discovered your channel. I really liked this video and your violin skills and I'll check out some other videos. Have you ever heard of Library of Ruina? It has a great ost with a great variety of styles. My favourite is the Angela boss theme, which also contains a violin, so maybe you like it as well. Would really love to see someone react to it. (I am not capable of telling apart string instruments) Edit: Intense

It's a rather small OST that's gone under the radar, but I think the soundtrack of The Case of the Golden Idol and its DLC The Spider of Lanka would very much something up your alley that you could give a lot of commentary to. Some standout tracks I would recommend are: The Watchful Eye, Secretive Society, Intoxicating Dinner, Crowning Celebration, and Alleyways of Lanka.

To hear your reaction to some of Chris Christodoulou's works from the video game Risk of Rain 2 would be fantastic! Risk of Rain 2 has a slew of relaxing, cinematic, and powerful songs that seem to be inspired by prog rock and electronic music from the 70s. Some great ones to check out are: - …con lentitud poderosa - The Rain Formerly Known as Purple - You're Gonna Need a Bigger Ukulele

The great thing about these songs is they're not only a clash between futuristic and old, but it's the boss theme of your character. This is what your enemies hear and feel. You're here for one reason: To feed. Humanity is dead. Blood is fuel. Hell is full.

24:28 also, this is some sense of hope… For the boss. His actions are one thing over and over, he can’t do anything to change it, but he loves it. Maybe, this time something will change? And if you beat his first line of health, he says “Yes! That’s it!”, because you can beat him, so maybe can beat his enemies. And you must, because they are interested in you…

Hey SPG, was wondering if you’d ever consider doing a video comparing Animal Crossing music from New Leaf as opposed to New Horizons. I’ve heard from a few others that the music in ACNH isn’t as ‘good’ or ‘memorable’ as ACNL but am wondering if that’s just the nostalgia talking.

You should react to the levels of the songs you listened to: Castle Vein: Level 1-3 "Halls of Sacred Remains" The Cyber Grind: it only plays in the infinite survival mode "The Cyber Grind" so it doesn't have a level Order (& Chaos which you haven't reacted to yet): Level P-1 "Soul Survivor" Tenebre Rosso Sangue, Pandemonium & War: Level P-2 "Wait of The World"

I've commented this on a previous video, I'm sure, but I think you might enjoy some pieces of Armored Core music. It's a less popular series than most, but with the announcement of 6, interest in the series is definitely picking up. I'd specifically recommend listening to "Remember" from For Answer and its remix, "Mechanized Memories" from Verdict Day.

I doubt you will ever read this, but I would highly suggest checking out Meganeko's Moonlight sonata 3rd movement cover. They are the same band who did Cybergrind for this game. It is honestly such a fun cover that mixes together so many different styles into such an iconic classic song. One of my absolute favorites of theirs, right up there with their song space magic.

UltraKill is a VERY thematic game, behind the facade of "haha funny robot go brrrrr" it is incredibly thematic, the game is basically the end of existence as we know it, and YOU are the cause. All life on earth was eradicated, so the machines, powered by fresh blood, descend into hell for more blood. They completely annihilate hell, eradicating all life in each layer one after another, and YOU are the one who destroys the major obstacles preventing their descent to the lower layers of hell, YOU cause Gabriel to destabilize heaven. Most of the boss themes aren't about your struggle to overcome the boss. No, they are about the boss' struggle as they try to stop you. You aren't the protagonist in UltraKill, you're the antagonist.
