The song comes from a 1955 prison movie called Unchained. Safe to say the song has lasted longer than the film. HF's version takes it back to the doo wop era & the prison setting for the video is a nod to the songs origins.

Home Free went to the roots of the song. It was originally written for the prison movie Unchained in 1955. I loved Tim (the bass) opening and then Austin finishing. So beautifully done. I loved them being in prison and loved the typewriter too. Well done! Good reaction but I wish you would listen with headphones or EarPods. It really helps you hear everything. Thank you!😄

Austin taking over the lead is a cheat IMO since he did the song 13 months before this one, sitting in his home with Steven Martinez on guitar. Beautiful!

I love Home Free and they're my favs. I know you're getting a lot of recommendations of theirs (and probably some of the solos like Austin and Tim). Let me introduce you to another A Capella group - VoicePlay. I think you should start with Tennessee Whiskey, Can't Help Falling In Love, Eleanor Rigby, or If I Were A Rich Man. They are the "theatre kids" of the A Capella trifecta (the other two being Penatonix and Home Free).

So glad you're enjoying our guys. They filmed their version of this along the lines of the original from the 1950's movie "Unchained" about a man in prison and he's getting closer to his release date but is seriously considering breaking out to be with his wife. I think we can call you guys Home Fries, welcome to the Home Free rabbit hole. The guys just released an original written by Austin Brown (the tenor with the ponytail) called "Playing With Fire" it's amazing!

No, the Righteous Brothers were not the original; it was also a cover, albeit the one most people think of. The original was written for a prison movie called "Unchained". Go figure. 😉 The guy in the movie/song is trying to decide whether to escape and be on the lam...or do his time and go back to his family. The video setting was a brilliant touch, with its black & white, shadows, and that cold, dank feeling of a jail cell! Many reactors just react based on what they've liked in the past/expectations or what "sounds good" to them. I'm not saying that's wrong, necessarily, but there's so much more underlying a song! I feel like there's so much more they could be getting from a song/video. Home Free are masters at their craft and part of their genius is their intricate attention to detail and pulling the emotions/meaning out of a piece of music (and sticking to its original intent). 🤯 Tim's beginning part is low and slow. I guess some people don't appreciate it for what it conveys - his loneliness & deep despair. Time (prison time) drags on so slowly ...hence the slow tempo. ⏳ Then Austin comes in with his beautiful tenor voice, a bit brighter & more hopeful! He still conveys loneliness, but there's light at the end of the tunnel. He's made his decision to finish out his sentence; now he just wants time to pass so he can return to his family. 👍❤ I love hearing the other guys (Rob & Chance) in the background during Austin's part, with their vocals "crying out" or "wailing" from the other cells. Wow! For some reason, not many reactors seem to catch (or at least fail to mention) Adam standing at the prison bars, twisting his wedding ring (or his black eye)! 😳

They do things unexpected like this, you would never guess that the bass would be the guy starting things off like that. (His name is Tim) Then the high tenor (Austin) came in to finish the second half. I enjoyed the setting because this song was made to be in a movie called "Unchained" in 1955. The Righteous Brothers sang it in 1965. So Home Free went back in time making this prison song like the movie seeing the old typewriter and the lyrics make sense you would miss someone's love in prison and be lonely. I also liked the Doo Wop that Home Free added to their version which was so prevalent in those days too.

I love Home Frees' cover of this song. It is unique and creative. The slower tempo of the song emphasizes painfully slow passage of time in prison and the angst and misery of being separated from their loved one and the longing to be with them again. The original was from a prison movie, so this harkens back to the the song's roots. I loved that Tim opened the song, then passed it off to Austin for the iconic soaring pinnacle notes the song is famous for. Beautiful cover, impactful video. This for me is the best version of this song I've ever seen.

The Righteous Brothers had a big hit with "Unchained Melody" in 1965. Home Free did such a beautiful rendition of this classic song. They added an old school doo-wop feel to it. The video in prison is very fitting as this song was originally written for the 1955 prison film "Unchained".

I love their rendition of this song - the original was from a 1950's prison escape movie. It was most famously covered by the Righteous Brothers (rest in peace Bobby Hatfield). Austin Brown (long ponytail) has a version of it on his channel that's also terrific. 3 of them are song writers (Tim - bass; Austin - high tenor; Chance - baritone/bass) so there are lots of originals as well as covers. Thanks for playing this one & your comments.

It sounds like you’re becoming Home Fries! There are so, so many more songs to discover down this rabbit and they just keep getting better and better. Some great original songs for future reactions: Catch Me If You Can Dive Bar Saints Leave This Town (these 3 👆have a thread connecting one video to the next, so watch in this order) Love Me Like That (for me this is the precursor to Austin’s trilogy - about lost love but thankfulness for what was); then the Stargazer Trilogy… Chapter 1 - Give Me A Sign (a prayer for new love) Chapter 2 - Stargazer Lilies (a dream about possible love), and Chapter 3 - Mr. (finding new love) If you’d like an introduction to our guys check out: Workin’ for a Livin’ (a cover/upgrade of the Huey Lewis song), and Dreamer, LIVE at the Ryman feat. Texas Hill (another great original where Tim does fun introductions of everyone) There are so many more but this will show you more of what they bring to the table! Home Free never disappoints!

The Righteous Brothers sang a cover of this song in the 1960s, and it re-populated this wonderful theme song. Written by Hy Zaret and music by Alex North for a prison movie "Unchained" circa 1955. Home Free pays total homage to the 1955 classic. 💜
