At the age of 87. I have spent a fortune on hearing aids. Only to realise there is nothing wrong with my ears. They were just full of the muck called modern music. I have also given up modern supermarket food. Now things taste better. Thanks so much.

I think that use to be very common here 40 years ago but now there aren't many places left like that. I will have to do some research on it. One of these days I plan on visiting Scotland to see the country of my ancestors.

Bringing back many musical childhood memories when i was listing to the wireless during and after the war. Al Bowlly stands out for me with his velvety voice. @@pax41 Don't get me wrong. I'm not being negative as I find the music to be quite good, it's just do to the sound of the recording (because of old tech, obviously) it makes me feel like I'm in an old abandoned house that is falling apart and there's an old phonograph sitting there just playing on it's own. Like it's literally playing music from the "other side". I don't know, it's hard to articulate the feeling. I get chills.

I think some of the music has this effect because the songs fade away at the end, often with unresolved chords. Also, these songs contain a different language than we are used to in music: more formal, concerned with subjects no longer fashionable like happiness, long lasting love, fidelity. This is music from another world, literally. One other thing: many of these songs are tangos or derive from the tango, and the rhythms are decidedly of another era.
