Tatiana’s heartbeat song came about when she learned that she was going to need a heart transplant and was placed on the waiting list. She told her medical team that when she got her new heart, she would want to keep her old heart. Obviously, the medical team was not sure if that would be able to happen, so the music therapy team stepped in to create a Heartbeat Song with her, recording her heartbeat via a stethoscope microphone into a computer where it could be mixed with a song of her choosing. Tatiana had been learning to play the ukulele during her hospital admission and singing to cope with her long admission and upcoming transplant and chose the song "Lovely" by Billie Eilish to create her heartbeat song. Her heartbeat was used as the backing rhythm and she and the music therapist recorded the ukulele part together in the hospital's recording studio, along with all of the vocals. When she gets her new heart, the chorus of the song will be transferred onto a recordable heart and placed inside of a stuffed hippo wearing a tutu that Tatiana picked out to be her "heartbeat mascot," so that her heart can remain with her always.
