Ham Sandwich the problem isn’t that you can’t, the problem is that so many people do it, because when 15 are people singing the same song the judges are only going to remember the FANTASTIC ones (maybe 2 or 3) and the rest get ignored by default. strategically, it makes the most sense to audition with less obvious choices

it gets on my nerve when people tell you not to use a song for audition, i mean as long as it matches the singing style of the show or character your auditioning for go for. YOU GOT TO SLAY THAT SONG, BETTER THAN ANYONE THATS AUDITIONING!
@lunalovegood8931
2 жыл бұрын
No, it’s helpful advice- I’ve been on the casting board a couple of times and when there’s say 50 people auditioning- and 8 of them do on my own- they all merge together and it’s incredibly hard to differentiate and therefore cast them. It also signals that someone’s an inexperienced performer.

@@maddie.swift13 there are 1000s of appropriate songs compared to the small number of songs that you shouldn’t do. many songs in musical theatre are varied, it’s not possible that only *one* song is a good fit for your voice. putting in a little effort to find something unique, learn it, and have a good audition, shows the directors that you’re willing to stand out and put in extra effort. picking up an overdone song shows not only inexperience like mentioned above, but also low effort and passivity.

In my class (Middle schoolers) choir works like this: All grades (6-8) Soprano 1s: The “popular” kids, dress up in light colors, not that fun, mostly girls, do “girly” things, mostly pick-me’s, chill, nice Soprano 2s: Mix, chill, energetic, barely noticed, noticed a lot, mostly the ones getting in trouble, dress in light and dark colors, does whatever, gets hurt the most, nice Altos: chill, super energetic, noticed the most, talks the most, very fun, mostly upperclassman, some 6th graders, overall themselves, can barely do anything without hurting themselves, very sporty in the more.. not too girly, not to boyish way, nice Director: Has the patience of GOD, very chill, dresses funky, funny, has to send 10+ kids down to the office for ice a day, deals with a huge amount of shenanigans, also band teacher, 6th hour is only choir hour, by then he’s given up trying to get the class in order, really lets us do whatever as long as we know our songs. Whole class: energetic AF, louder when we dont sing than when we do, more like a club/safe haven then an actual class, walking into a bunch of kids 11-14 laying on the floor is normal, and usually screaming is very normal.

The bad news is grades shifted to different schools so we got 2 new grades if newbies in choir. We have 3 boys and 1 doesn't want anything, 1 wants mufasa, and the one who is really really good wants scar and he will get whatever he wants so yea...no idea who Simba will be🤣 My cousin and I want to be Timon and Pumbaa because together we act like pretty much just the same as those characters, so it would be awesome!

We have like 8 sopranos in our choir class and 17 Altos yet almost EVERY soprano (including me) are "that soprano" so we can't hear the altos at all lol.

i had the problem where i can't sing in front of other people but i can sing alone and with people im comfortable with, it got to the point where my performance anxiety got me bad scores in contests, i still sing when im alone tho don't let performance anxiety and bad scores keep you from doing what you like in your own time 🙏
