Sabaton is a Swedish Power Metal band that deliver war history through their songs. Almost every song the've written is about some historical event concering some of the wars in history. This song is about the actual Christmas Truce that the combatting sides arranged without approval from the leaders during World War I and the first winter.

Sabaton is pretty good about not blocking videos - well not them, whoever their publisher is. Yeah the rolled R's are something he always exaggerates for effect. In an interview with Herman Li (DragonForce) he said that he developed that because so many of their songs are historical and they have a lot of numbers etc that make for long phrases, and he found it as a way to add some space. The female vocal at the end is Floor Jansen (Nightwish) who is married to Sabaton's drummer Hannes Van Dahl

I think the whole meaning of the song was lost on you tbh. The song was about a very sad period in history so joakim was being serious about it. The sabaton guys are really funny and down to earth in reality so that makes this song a bit more emotional for me. I’m assuming you looked into it a bit and now appreciate that the song is about an actual set of events over Xmas 1914 on the western front. I lost two great grandads and a great uncle in the trenches. I’m not criticising your reaction, we all get different things from songs and videos depending on our personal tastes.

Sabaton always make sure that the music fits the story they are telling, they pretty much always tell a story, so in this case, that "earnestness" is to a large part because of the topic of the song. It's both happy and sad at the same time so they try to portray that in the music and the singing. So his singing will not always have this tone to it, although those rolling R's will always be there, it's part of his northern swedish accent. One other thing you will not get rid of also is the "epicness" of it all. Since they sing about epic subjects/moments, the music always have that epic feeling to it. :) But if you want to get a hang of the full scope of Sabaton, I think a good starter pack is the way to go. :) So I will suggest 3 songs/performances/videos to showcase their things. After that, you are good to go in any direction you want. They are not necessarily their best songs, but they will show you the complete picture. And obviously they are great anyway. :) 1. No bullets fly, the animated story video. kzitem.info/news/bejne/xamitWFpgJmWoY4 Since pretty much all their songs have a historic background, the animated story videos are great to get the context, and No bullets fly is something extra for sure. It's about an act of the greatest humanity in pretty much the worst possible time for humanity. 2. Bismarck. kzitem.info/news/bejne/0IyNq5ZjeqZprJg One of the most visually impressive music videos ever made. And that is not an exaggeration. :) And a really great song on top of that. It's about the hunt for and sinking of the german battleship Bismarck in WW2. 3. En livstid i krig, Live from the Great tour in Gothenburg. kzitem.info/news/bejne/uHipmXtniaiqmYI It's in Swedish so turn on the captions and be prepared to be amazed. There will be smiles from ear to ear mixed with tears and you get to experience what might be the greatest live performance ever. It's the story about a Swedish soldier going into war, the 30 years war that ravaged Europe during the 17:th century. And if you want to delve deeper into their songs, their other channel, Sabaton history, kzitem.info/rock/aG4CBbZih6nLzD08bTBGfw ,where they go into detail about the story behind each of their songs, is a great source of some light history combined with heavy metal. :) Every song they have made have a corresponding video of about 15 minutes where a historian and great storyteller speaks about the history and at the end, he and the band talks a bit about the song itself. It's really great entertainment.

Some very valid points. I think it's certainly a good Christmas song. You missed the credit for Floor Jansen, with her lovely wordless soprano over the end credits. Quite a few reactors have noted that it''s her before the credit comes up but perhaps, as she is married to Sabaton's drummer, Hannes van Dahl, they may be second guessing that fact.

Edit. Sorrz, i do liek zour reaction though, i just cant help but think about that and laugh :D Its as honest as can be, its just the first time youve heard someone actually sing with their natural accent in english, rolling Rs ,this is what it sounds like when youre not faking it.. this is what we sound like in sweden before we learn to not roll our Rs when speaking english :D Edit: and actuallz we also dont pronounce th- as the english do either.

Rolling r is definitely exaggerated and was jarring for an American ear at first. I believe it’s his natural accent, but exaggerated for style. When I first started listening to European bands the accents would throw me off. My example is Nightwish. Tarja and Annette both have very noticeable accents that would take me out of certain songs. Floor has a more neutral accent and I consistently enjoy more of her singing.
