Senri Kawaguchi and Juna Serita have both started a couple of new projects this year that are really interesting. Both are obviously in The Jazz Avengers, but Senri is also part of 坐音 ZAON (they have a youtube channel, which is worth checking out), which is a mix of Jazz musicians and players of traditional Japanese instruments who play Jazz fusion with the added flavour of those Japanese traditional instruments. They released an album earlier this year. Juna Serita is in the Jazz fusion band "Muses" which has Kanade Sato on drums (who just turned 20) and Rie a.k.a. Suzaku on guitars (funnily enough, Senri has played on some Rie a.k.a. Suzaku albums in the past and Kanade Sato does on the recent albums). They recently released an album (last month). They don't have their own youtube channel, but you can find some of their songs on the PoppinRecords youtube channel. Both projects include great musicians and are certainly worth checking out of you feel like playing something different than standard rock or metal. I slightly prefer 坐音 ZAON because the mix with the traditional instruments is something new for me, but I highly recommend both. I really hope The Jazz Avengers also release an album though, I am not a huge Jazz fan even though I like to listen to it every once in a while and I am a huge Senri fan, but I am also a fan of great musicianship and these are 8 fantastic musicians in one band.

My favourite Senri collaboration is KIYO*SEN.

@@JoeSzilagy KIYO*SEN is also really good. I was just talking about the new ones they started this year. I'm not sure what my favourite would be, it somewhat depends on my mood. Sometimes I prefer her solo stuff, other times KIYO*SEN or one of the new ones.

@@MaartenT I know Juna a little, having met her in London in 2019 when she played with another friend, Rie Tomimatsu, (aka: Rie aka: Suzaku), along with Kanade Sato, and Marie Fukai on keyboards. Though they were a sort of prog/fusion instrumental, they were playing at a Japanese metal festival there. I got Juna into a bass competition at NAMM after that- she didn't win, but she got an endorsement from an amplifier company there. Anyway, I don't think Juna is so much into the metal stuff. I've met Senri a couple of times and have some videos of her performing on my channel if you're interested, as well as Juna and Rie's band- all of us wandering around the British Museum.

@@briancockerham4731 Rie's band at the metal festival was not metal. They were more or less 'fusion', but were somehow invited to play at that festival in England. I didn't go to see any metal. I went to see a friend in London, plus Rie is a friend as is Juna and some of the others.

4 saxes, soprano sax, 2 altos and a tenor, I have followed the tenor player (Miku) for years, she's awesome. adding in Senri (probably her band) and Juna, the guitar and keyboard players are amazing too btw. love this group, I hope they do a lot more stuff, they are a fantastic sound.

New Jazz Avengers yesterday, one of Senri Kawaguchi's compositions. Besides the expectedly great drums and bass, the extended dueling sax improv solos kicked ass. Tenor sax solo was extraordinary.

yeah she's pretty amazing, I love her song Tenor Hunter. I grew up playing piano, alto and tenor sax. I LOVE the tone of a good tenor. She's fantastic. I played in a jazz band for a few years and only wish I ever sounded as good as Miku Yonezawa. she's a vibrant person too, so fun. this is an amazing group of musicians. so talented. I hope they stay together and do a lot of live and original music too at some point, they have the right mix of talent and writers too
