David Duncan started learning Scottish Highland Bagpipes at age 12 in his hometown of Tucson, Arizona. He played in traditional Scottish pipe bands for almost 20 years and competed in the Grade One level at The World Pipe Band Championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
In addition to playing Scottish Highland Bagpipes he also plays German Medieval Bagpipes. In 2009 he toured the United States performing at Renaissance Festivals with the German Medieval bagpipe band Wolgemut.
In 2014 he started an experimental performance-based bagpipe band called The Freestylers of Piping, which incorporates electric Highland Bagpipes and a repertoire of mostly original compositions.
In 2020, he began studying jazz music on Highland Bagpipes with the intention of honoring the legacy of the world’s first jazz bagpiper, the late Rufus Harley Jr.
David currently resides in Los Angeles, California where he works as both a professional musician and a full-time motion graphics designer.
