Nice catch and cool video! As a fellow fisherman, I do not understand why you would ever lay down a fish you plan to release in the dirt. It can seriously damage their mucous membrame and result in a slow death from fungal infection. Same to touching them with dry clothes etc. I am hopeful we can all move to a more sustainable and understanding way of living the best hobby on this planet.

I understand that and I would never lay a fish on the ground like that but in this case my shoulder was out of socket and they had to help me up the bank.

I would suggest deleting this video. Some of the worst fish handling skills I’ve ever seen. Never hold Muskie up vertically with fish grippers. Never lay Muskie in the dirt. If you are targeting Muskie bring a net.

Catch and release, how about catch and kill, that’s what you guys are doing by laying these beautiful fish in the dirt. Learn how to handle fish that you intend to release.

I can't blame them for wanting to fish there but it's a no brainer you need a net for fish this big & some respect for the fish as they may be fierce predators, but they are still fragile when not handled properly. I did some respect at the end when one of them made sure the fish was ready to go & go just release it without making sure it was ready. One crazy section of river for so many of these elusive beasts.
