Salaam everyone! We hope you enjoy our travel vlog about our first Michelin star restaurant experience in Seoul South Korea.
We woke up really early to enjoy the beautiful sunny day and our hotel called the Four Points sheraton was located right beside Seoul station. We decided to start the day by visiting the Gyeongbokgung Palace or Gyeongbok Palace, which is a very popular tourist site to visit.
This palace is a very popular attraction and we wanted to avoid the grounds so we went to visit it right when it opened at 9 AM. The tickets were about $3USD and it allowed us to roam and walk around the Gyeongbokgung Palace. You can also purchase tickets to do a historic tour and learn more about the history of the palace.
One of the main attractions of the Gyeongbokgung palace is when they have the changing of the guards ceremony. The ceremony lasts for about 15 to 20 minutes and it starts at 10 AM sharp! The guards are wearing beautiful costumes that represent what the guards use to wear long ago. Really beautiful display and a lot of tourists are around to see this.
Around the palace there are places where you can go and rent unique Korean outfits and walk around to take nice photos. We saw a few people getting married and this is definitely one of the busiest places to visit as a tourist so we recommend going early.
After visiting the palace, there is an amazing unique area in Seoul called Bukchon Hanok Village (북촌한옥마을). There are a lot of traditional houses, called hanok, and a lot of these houses have been converted into restaurants, cafes, and cool shopping stores. We loved this area! We stopped by a cute and unique cafe called 16 bungee and tried some delicious korean coffee lattes.
We strolled around bukchon hanok village and went shopping and bought a lot of unique Korean crafts and we purchased a really beautiful tea set. Definitely a must when you visit Seoul.
The highlight of the day was Ryunique or sometimes called Lyunikkeu which is one of the top 50 restaurants in Asia
Ryunique is also a michelin star restaurant that serves modern fusion Korean and French inspired dishes where all the ingredients are sourced from South Korea.
When we walked in we were greeted by the hostess and offered drinks right away and they took us to our table where they explained where all the ingredients come from and how the chef takes inspiration from different cuisines around the world such as french, italian, and japanese.
This place is special! The food was some of the best I have ever tried and the execution of each dish shows how talented the chef is.
We ended up choosing the lunch tasting menu that the chef offered and we got to try so many varieties of food. The chef personally came out to explain some of the dishes to us and say hi.
This place will definitely have two michelin stars or even three in the future if they continue to make such great food!
The restaurant is located in Gangnam district which is a lavish, rich, young and hip area that has a lot of high end fashion and cool restaurants. Gangnam is popular because of the famous song by Psy called gangnam style and I can understand why, this area is where all the latest fashion trends and beauty trends can be found.
This was our last michelin star restaurant that we tried during our trip to Japan and South Korea and it was a unique experience. We are huge foodies and we love to try new types of food and experience great restaurants such as Ryunique
