Great video! I have several of these on my TBR. I am on book 9 of the Echoes Saga. I have LOVED it! I highly recommend it I was hooked from the beginning and each book had me more invested

thanks for highlighting these!! there were parts of sword of kaigen that gave me a visceral reaction. like, it fully had me at the edge of my seat in a way only my favorite authors can make me do. overall, it wasn't a 5-star for me but ML Wang is the best case for indie fantasy I've seen, I'd love to see her get a stipend or a publishing deal and just see her go nuts with her ideas, with all the resources she needs to expand her creative scope.

Another great video of suggestions to add to my TBR! Thanks! As for my suggestion to you for an indie author/series, given the type of books you seem to enjoy, I would HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend Under the Northern Sky series by Leo Carew. The Wolf, The Spider, and The Cuckoo, and I believe a 4th book is on the way. You won't be disappointed!

I am currently reading Of Blood and Fire... and as an Eragon fan, I am a bit shocked at the comparison tbh. Maybe because I am only at the point where they left the village. But to me, it feels more like a modern Wheel of Time so far, with the three boys and the creature they find. I love both so this is not a critique, now I am actually even more excited to keep reading and hoping for the Eragon influence to reveal itself to me

I would recommend Philip Chase, aka Doctor Fantasy 😁 of course. I have his books already but as I said to him, I wait for the audiobook version (almost ready) before I start it. His book as far as I know is more like a classical type, but it’s not a surprise, after all there is only one writing that he praised almost as much as Malazan world and that is Tolkien’s full work.

@@SpacedOutWizard I think Andy is right, but just a heads up: if you start with Darkblade before Queen of Thieves, you will need to pause after book four (Darkblade:Savior) to read all three Queen of Thieves books and Traitor's Fate before you read book five (Darkblade:Deceiver) because Ilanna (the main char. from QoT) appears in that book, which takes place in her city of Praamis. I had figure this out by trial and error, so I thought I'd save y'all the trouble, lol!

I know its not super well known but if any of you are interested in an amazing story with a really cool take on supes, i recommend reading Worm. Its not published in physical, its online, and it is probably the best book ive ever read. A solid 10/10.

@@SpacedOutWizard It's about teenage/adult supes in a city...but what is it about...that's hard to quantify. It's technically one book...and it's 3x the length of lord of the rings. It's about a teenage girl named Taylor and her adventure into the supe world. It's phenomenal. I can't praise it enough. The character growth is incredible, the world building vast and precise, the plot top tier.

Well I've learned to not pre-judge books just by recommendations. Case in point, the Sword of Kaigen which was probably the worst book I've read last year. So much eye-rolling and BS, so much imbalance in everything, and generally bad writing which really highlights the need for proper editing before self-publishing. But to each his own, and I know my opinion is widely unpopular so maybe you will be lucky and love it instead of wanting to throw it out of the window.
