Bael or Woodapple ("Matoom" in Thai) is used in traditional medicine to ease fever, infection, upset stomach, fatique. Aside from Matoom tea, you can also find it dried, sugar coated, or even in baked goods. My grannie made Matoom cake, but it's surely an aquired taste. Grilled banana with coconut sauce is my favorite snack❤ Keep up the good work guys😊

Dried bael is used to make the tea you had. Search for มะตูมเชื่อม (sugar coated bael) on line, I think you can find it quite easily. Even in Wanglang market, some dry sweet stalls do have sugar coated bael for sale. As for bael cake, check out B Story Cafe in front of Rachathewi BTS station. The cafe is very pretty and accessable. Sometimes they have unique cakes like durian and bael, but maybe it's better to call and check coz it they may be seasonal. Or, if you have a chance to go to Wat Pho, I think Ha Tien cafe (near The Deck) also serves bael cake too.

Bael fruit is a herb that Thai people are familiar with and accustomed to because it has been processed into a variety of desserts and drinks and is easily available. In particular, bael fruit is used to make candied bael fruit, bael fruit cake, bael fruit jelly, or bael fruit juice, which is another type of herbal drink that people like to drink because it is an herb that is easy to eat. Therefore, bael fruit is used as a medicine to treat various symptoms. Widely used, such as treating diarrhea, expelling gas, and helping with laxatives. Most of the time, we often see the use of the fruit or pulp to eat as food or relieve symptoms. However, other parts of the bael tree, such as leaves, roots, and bark, also have medicinal properties. The scientific name of the bael tree is Aegle marmelos (L.) Correa ex Roxb. It is in the Rutaceae family. Its English name is Bael, or other names such as Bael fruit tree, Bengal quince, Bilak, Indian bael, Tree bael, or local Thai names such as Katantathera, Tumtang, Tum, Phanong, Mapin, and Mapisa. It is a perennial tree, 10-15 meters tall. The leaves are compound fingers arranged alternately. The leaflets are elliptical or egg-lanceolate with rounded edges. The flowers are clustered at the leaf axils and at the ends of the branches. The outer petals are light green and the inner petals are pale. The leaves and flowers are fragrant. The fruit is a fresh fruit with yellow flesh and mucus (1).@@ChovyTravel

Foreigners are not used to eating fruits with rice like sticky rice with mango. Your egg custard is Khanom mo kaeng which is coconut milk, eggs and flour with fried shallots and my grandmother is the best at making it. These are not available anywhere else but they are easy to find in Thailand. The fruit Caroline doesn't recognize is the custard apple. What Anthony drinks is bael (Aegle marmelos) juice.

@@ChovyTravel Custard apples are ripe when their flesh is soft. Their skin and seeds are inedible. Cut in half, scoop out the flesh and discard the seeds. Use the flesh raw in fruit salads, ice creams, milk shakes and yoghurt drinks. But the easiest way that I recommend is to buy some for a Thai friend and see how he eats them. It will be easier to understand with your eyes.

when you have pad grapow with egg, try putting kikkoman (or Maggi) soy sauce or any salty soy sauce on the egg. it enhances the flavor. if you were to do it thai style, thai people like to eat their fried eggs with prik nam pla which is fish sauce with chopped chilies, chopped garlic, and lime juice (some people even add some sugar and shallots into the recipe), served in a small condiment dipping bowl. Just take some of that prik nam pla sauce with your spoon and put it on your fried egg. Only recommended if you can tolerate the spiciness of Thai spicy chilies.
@ChovyTravel

@@ChovyTravel Honestly, from my experience, most americans can't handle the spice level of the thai chili pepper, no offense, just stating general observation. But prik nam pla is worth a try if you are adventurous and daring enough. In thai they (Thai chilies) are called prik kee noo. It's about 15x to 20x hotter than a jalapeño. Just a warning though, if you just try thai chili pepper bare by itself without mixing it in with food, depending on how sensitive you are, it may cause you to have a coughing fit, as the throat may be too irritated because the individual's sensitivity level to chili peppers.

What you eat that feels like eggs and tofu is called Khanom mo kaeng or another old name is Kumbhamat. It is an ancient dessert invented by a half Portuguese and half Japanese woman. Her name is Maria Guyomar de Pinha, a legend who created many Thai desserts since the Ayutthaya period. I can't remember if I've ever mentioned her to you. But I think I've explained it to you from stories about other Thai desserts. So this is an ancient Thai dessert that did not originate in Thailand because it probably developed from Western desserts.😊

What you see in the wet market. The shop is scraping the coconut meat into small pieces. That is how to make coconut milk. By taking the coconut meat that is scraped into small pieces like a large powder and pouring warm water in. Then squeeze it into coconut milk. The first squeeze will be the most concentrated coconut milk. The next time it will be diluted. In Thai food and Thai desserts, both types are used depending on the type of food being made.
