I live in a Texas small town, therefore we do not have any consistent restaurants. The pandemic has made things.worse. I use to go to to NewOrleans before COVID. At 77 years old, I feel like I need someone to go with me and I have no one. These KZitem videos have encouraged me. I hope to make it back to NOLA someday, if I can get a travel partner.

This was a great tour you guys!! I really enjoyed the history, tradition and back stories of how a lot of the New Orleans cuisine started and evolved over the years. Kayla was not only very knowledgeable but extremely enthusiastic which just enhanced an already great video. It’s easy to see that both of you take a lot of pride in where you come from and the rich history that New Orleans has. When I’m back in NOLA I’ll definitely look you guys up!!

I really appreciate how seriously they take the cuisine and its origins: almost like a graduate lecture in both history and food. Both commentators are excellent and I would certainly enjoy hearing their stories in person. By the way, it is not surprising that Vietnamese cuisine fits so well into the current New Orleans food scene since it has direct links to French cooking.

Check out Casa Pelican, run by Chef Karen, a wonderful Canadian e-pat. She used to have a restaurant, now she has cooking classes and a B&B. Best meal I've ever had in the area (including Brigtsen's). She's in Algiers, across the river. There's a $2 passenger ferry, so no trying to drive a car in NOLA.

Your video tours are just wonderful and I would recommend them for anyone who does not have relatives to give you this level of insight into the food and wonders that are the multi cultural locations that is New Orleans. Even though Chicago is my home, New Orleans has been my second city for my entire life. I am addicted to the food and the culture but like you I can pass on Bourbon Street. Great job on the introduction to the food culture of Nola. One thing I like to tell friends Who I turn onto café Dumond in the beignets is to not bother taking the kit home. It’s not possible to make that in a typical kitchen with any success. Trust me, we’ve tried! Lol. Thank you so much.

Kayla, thank you for clarifying the gumbo argument. Yes, you can have tomatoes in gumbo. Okra doesn’t have to be in all gumbo. File and sassafras is definitely a personal taste. It’s so funny hearing the arguments. Personally, I prefer dark roux in both chicken and sausage gumbo and seafood gumbo. I am from SE Texas next to the Louisiana state line so I guess I prefer cajun gumbo. Love the video. We have been to NOLA many times visiting family.

I grew up near New Orleans but have been away for many years. Growing up, I enjoyed eating almost all of the food you two highlighted in this video tour (if not the restaurants you visited). One thing not mentioned but I miss greatly about New Orleans is red beans and rice: an humble but very tasty dish. I also miss the crab, shrimp and crawfish boils from my childhood. Incredible food can be found all over south Louisiana but it's all readily available in the New Orleans area. Wonderful video - brings back a lot of memories!

Either way, when I come to visit, I will definitely hit you up for a few tours because I think I’ll need more than one day to see it all. Thanks for all of your posts.

@@FreeToursbyFootHQ I watched several of your tours yesterday. Awesome...A family you might want to check out is the Ruffino Family, 625 and 626 St. Philip St. I'd personally like to know all the bars that were at ,626. It's got a lot of history besides being a morgue. The first was by Ruffino Family member called Mr. Vic's, , it also burned in 1976. The other address has lots of history as well. Ruffino Bakery has lots of history with the muffalato sandwich. The family goes way back 1700's. I miss living there. I was there in the 70's. Best time ever....
