I came to the W following Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso but have stayed to see Caitlin Clark, C Brink, A Edwards, R Jackson and many others after seeing some awesome and exciting women's basketball. I knew some of the great names but never watched and now have at least 3 favorite players on every wnba team. What's really crazy is my wife who doesn't watch sports, got hooked as well and is always asking me "what time is the game" lol. Talk about being hooked!!! I really can't believe I've missed 22yrs of some of the best in sports. What a finals matchup between the Liberty and the Lynx! Some great games and I'm sad to see the season come to an end. Quita, I Love your Sky post-game podcast! Thank you👏🏾🙏🏾

The whole 700 islands and cays in the Bahamas locked in coming, following and watching JJ. 🇧🇸🇧🇸Plus other countries watching and coming to see their players. Bahamians and Caribbean people we are watching JJ and AB. Plus some might have others they watch. People are paying big big money and flying in to the USA just to watch the WNBA finals because of the two teams in the play off.

Quita I love your channel, keep up the great work. I was an NBA fan and Gopher BB fan having gone to school with both Kevin McHale and Randy Breuer. I watched Magic and Bird play in college and in the NBA, watched Jordan do his thing. Lost interest when they retired. I became a WNBA fan years ago, a fan of Swoopes (though not any more), Cooper and all. Coming from Minnesota I was a fan of the Lynx, Maya Moore and Lindsay Whalen. When Whalen retired I tried not watch but lost interest. Watching Caitlin Clark coming from the Iowa and the BigTen brought me back, brought back the love of watching the sport. I watched CC join the Fever and discovered Kelsey Mitchell another BigTen player in the WNBA. At this point I’ve become a diehard Fever fan and a Lynx fan again. Even though the Fever are out I’ve found players and teams I enjoy watching. I’ll stay for Caitlin and fast paced basketball, I’ll stay for the BigTen players in the W. The new fans are here to stay but the WNBA players need to stop pushing people to learn about the past to enjoy the present. Or trying to make us like players who are unlikeable.

I definitely feel like a lot of lapsed fans came back. I was a big fan in that initial wave of interest in 1997(was 15 at the time). I even used to watch ABL games. That 1996 Womens Olympics team had a buzz in my eyes so I wanted to watch them as they played as pros. Gradually over time I started to fall off, although I still kept up with my favorite players like Cappie Pondexter and the leagues biggest stars. Eventually I Became super casual until a damn video game lol. Started playing NBA 2k23(game dropped in 2022) and that made me want to know the players more in depth(outside of just following the stars).

I started watching women's hoops to see Dawn Staley at Virginia, and became an anyone but Tennessee fan (because they beat Virginia...). Started going to the NCAA women's Final Fours in 1995, and was thrilled in 1997 to get to see our college women get to play pro! Have attended a few W games when I travel, and see as much on TV as possible.

I have a very small videogame channel and I actually kind of talk about my fandom in a recent video. I'm weird in that I went from a more hardcore fan early in the league's history (1997) to very very casual through like the 2010s and back to a more regular follower as of a couple seasons ago. The weirdest part is that nba 2k23(released in 2022) is what made me start following more regularly again. I wanted to be more familiar w the real versions of the cyber players I was using. Like I knew the stars but didnt know the league if that makes sense. It also made me seek out things that I missed during my casual years(like full games, news articles, game highlights). This rookie crop has be invested in the long term because I want to see how this generation turns out. I'm also a "draftnik" type so I am looking at college prospects the way I do for the NFL and NBA. I am happy that the game is growing and in some ways regret falling off the way I did.

WNBA has some great basketball. I've been a fan, but the W didn't get the coverage they deserved in the last few years which is sad but networks are about the numbers and money, so I get that part. Revenue is up tv wise as many new eyes came to watch Catlin Clark and Angel Reese. I'm not mad about that either as it has brought the much needed exposure to the W. I see where many say they are still watching. These finals have been amazing. Last year Liberty vs Aces was great as well. The sellouts at these finals have been encouraging as well. Hopefully the new fans will hang around. Good job Quita.

I i watch alot of oeople in the WNBA space but only 3 i am subscribed to and I noticed a common thread among all three of you - you are ALL believers and it clearly influences how you all speak about the WNBA and the fans. Target Center has been sold out for each Women's Final Four held there...I hope that this growth doesn't push out us old timers who supported the games over decades, we are retired and can't afford the Ticketmaster prices and fees! I'm thrilled that our players and leagues are finally getting some media attention, and discussion crossing out of sports media! With this series, I'm especially loving seeing mega stars AND former teammates (won 2 championships together) Stewie and Phee play and defend each other. They know each other so well, it's really FUN and what skills to watch and appreciate. I only wish that the W required higher level training of officials to be able to keep up with and see the game - it's as if they are a step or 10 sec behind and miss or miss call so much.

I came across the WNBA by accident. I was channel surfing and saw some women playing ball. I said these women sure can play, and it happened to be the Sky playing in their title game in 2021. Now with all the excitement over the women's game now, I am glad some players who deserve recognition is getting it. The rookies brought new eyes to the league, Reese, Clark and Jackson just to name a few. Now the veterans like Aja Wilson, Arike and many others, talented players with more people witnessing their great basketball ability. I hope this continues, with the WNBA getting the recognition they deserve. Good information.

Came for Aces last year, came for CC this year, stayed for CC and the hate between CC and Reese fans. I thought it would be some forced rivalry, but it exploded into something never seen before. It brought race, politics, bigotry, hate, trolling, media bias, fanaticism, drama, competition, economics, marketing/promotion. And it just grew all season. Fans, media, sponsors, influencers invested a lot of time, effort, and money and are now invested for the long term. CC and Reese are not going anywhere. Paige will build on the momentum next season. So the key was to get the public's attention, then get their interest/curiosity, then get them following CC/Reese, then get a lot of them watching games, then hope these new fans/eyeballs like what they see and stay and follow other players and teams. I think the compelling stories of CC and Reese alone caused most of the growth and sustainability. Those two were known commodities, were interesting and their play matched their hype. The league benefited from timing issues too. CC was a global star coming out of Iowa, her popularity as a college player brought a built-in fanbase to the WNBA. Reese was also a popular player, she is so unique in personality and play and demands attention good or bad. Then there was little break between college and start of the W. Both players went to bad teams allowing the focus to be on these two players. Then the league, media (tv coverage, internet, ESPN, etc) and sponsors bought in right away. The rest is history. I think the hate shown for players is just a freak sideshow, has little to do with the overall growth.

Wow that game over game growth is awesome. I wish the narrative would become this: cc brought a bunch of new eyes to the game. Viewership would not have jumped this year without her, even if it would have grown somewhat. Not this much. But there are enough interesting players and storylines that the new eyes stayed. And there are enough new eyes now that any opinion to be had, is had by someone. The “new” fans are very diverse and the group is too big to label or stereotype or paint with a broad brush in any way.

This season, 6 WNBA franchises, Washington, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Minnesota, Seattle & Atlanta all set the highest attendance ever for a home game this season which were all against the Indiana Fever. The Phoenix Mercury this season drew their largest home crowd to see a Mercury home game in 27 years. The attendance of 17,071 on June 30 was the largest home crowd in Phoenix in the Diana Taurasi that began in 2004 and it was against the Indiana Fever. The previous record of the most attended home game in the Taurasi era was 15,499 in 2008.

I don't understand a LSU/Iowa rivalry. We never thought about Iowa and sure Iowa didn't think about us. That made up rivalry was made up by the media. That, is not organic hype. Here at LSU, we hate Bama and Ole Piss. Of course the rest of the SEC are enemies, but those 2 are our biggest rivals and Arkansas. We don't think of anyone else that highly. I complimented our actual rivals. I dont understand how 1 game starts a rival. UCONN/TENN back in the day was a rivalry. In WBB South Carolina has just moved into the column of a rival, only since they've started beating our butts but not Iowa. South Carolina could never beat LSU or any team consistently before Dawn built her home there, but congrats to sustaining success. But lets be more intentional about our words and leave these false narratives for mainstream media. That is their selling points. We're above their deceptive practices.

But I understand, your channel would lose subscribers if you talked about Jesus instead of sports and WNBA. We need to spend more time, praying and telling others about Jesus and His finished work on the cross and His Resurrection. And the Spirit of God drawing the lost unto Himself! God bless. @@JayAli-u3x You meant to say that sports media didn't capture, or didn't think they'd make money, off of the vets to ingratiating the audience with them. The media, NIL, and click-baiters making money off of this rookie class, created this surge. But don't act like these vets weren't already balling and fighting to sustain this league with very little; to allow it to continue this long for Angel and co. to even have a dream of playing in it.

Two rookies were peak performers this year, meaning they lead the entire league in a major statistical category. One rookie was top 5 in MVP voting, and another received a vote as well. A rookie was named to the all W first team. Of course the vets are great and deserve all of their accolades and flowers, but to argue that the rookies (who are only going to get better and better) “couldn’t handle” playing with veterans or aren’t “real” ballers is not based on anything but your own bias.
