Whether or not they are required to stop and/or pull over(which i believe they are), an operator must maintain control of his/her vehicle at all times....seems like the motorcyclist was following a bit too close

I've never had it happen to me while responding to the building but I've been the first on scene to an accident when I was just driving home from work. As a professional rescuer, especially in a marked vehicle, you cannot just drive by an accident, even if it looks minor, you are REQUIRED to stop. Jason, I know you know that, I'm just saying that for everyone else that was wondering if you had to stop.

If I ever win the Lottery, I would personally come to Milton County, and purchase you a brand new personal response vehicle. 8501 would be jealous lol. Your video's are great, and if I can organize a fundraiser to help in the cause to get you a new response vehicle.. I will certainly try for that. Thanks Jason for these great videos you post here.

Ok. Here is a scenario from a firefighters perspective. I get two calls and both are for structure fires. One has an entrapment and one doesnt. The one with no entrapments is about 2 miles away and the one with the entrapment is about 3/4 a mile away and was reported after the structure fire with entrapments was. So just because it was reported first, I am gonna pass the house with an entrapment and let the victim die? I dont think so.

@fndrjbass You are right about that, in a police chase, the lead unit will keep going and one of the secondary units will stop to help the injured persons. But I'm an EMT. I'm not required to stop in my POV if I don't want to, the story about someone that didn't stop having their card yanked is just a myth. But I'm the kind of person (as an EMT) that will always stop unless EMS is already on scene.

Well yea. Thats normally how it works. If someone is injured right in front of me and I have the resources availible to help them, Im helping them first since they are closest. You can always dispatch another unit to the other scene. Yes it will make for a longer response time, but you gotta do whatcha gotta do.

@bigredchevytruck That depends on what state you are from. MN is a duty to act state so you are required by law to render aide or you can lose your license and possibly face civil and criminal charges.

Ok, in response to all the crazy comments. Good lord people, calm down. None of you was on this call so stop with the wondering. We were dispatched on the original call of a child that had gone missing outside. While responding to this call, I was the lead unit, this accident happened. It is required by our policy and Kentucky law that we stop and render aid until another unit that is better able to handle the situation arrives. They cancel us on the other run anyway after I get out of the car.
@Stick0413

May vary by the state. I know in VA even if you are OFF duty and either witness an accident or come upon one you are required as an EMT to stop and render assistance. It is called Duty to Render Assistance here and if you do not do it you can be criminally and civilly liable. In all truth I know EMTs that do not have EMT plates or anything so if they see a minor fender bender they will not stop and they can't be IDed as an EMT.

@wmfdshrek19 If you are in a marked vehicle, a fire vehicle or an Ambulance, yes, you have to stop. But if you are driving in your personal vehicle, you can choose not to stop. I always do anyway but when I took my CORE 13 class a year ago, I was told that you have a duty to act as a professional rescuer. However, if you are in your own vehicle, you are not required to stop.

My country has a law that requires you to help according to your possibilities, if you can do so without unreasonably endangering yourself. Failure to do so can result in a fine or even a jail sentence. Even so, many people can't be bothered, and it is pretty rare that someone gets charged.

As my old fire instructor said, you are REQUESTING the right of way, you DO NOT HAVE the right away.. Yea i think like every other vollie, why in the hell dont people just get over? Its a million dollar question that thousands of emergency responders have asked, The only thing i can come up with is, as was stated in a previous comment, people tend to freeze in the presence of an emergency vehicle.. There are the choosen and gifted few of us that sit behind the wheel and operate those emergency

If you were running code whilst responding it wasn't your fault. he should have heard you and seen the cars slow down to yield for right of way. Wonder what his excuse was...??? This is very dangerous and why motorcycle riders should not be allowed to have ear plugs or anything in the ears to block out the noise Both drivers would get a ticket 1 For breaking and causing the accident. 2 The motorcycle rider failure to observe and move over to emergency vehicle.. Now here what i do know many motor cycle riders do use ear plugs or head phones to block out the noise so they cant hear what around them which is sad.

OK, so the main question is: Are vehicles on the other side of the road, traveling in the opposite direction, required to stop, slow, or move for an emergency vehicle going the other way? Because in this video, it's apparent that the drivers on the other side react differently throughout. Should the pickup have stopped or not? Because if it hadn't, the motorcycle wouldn't have hit it.

@tamzntrev Wow. Pretty dense of you. The driver of the pick-up pretty much parked his vehicle in the lane of travel, not on the side of it like he should have. And then you have the motorcyclist who was most likely mesmerized by the approaching lightbar and not paying attention to the brake lights in front of him.

Due in part to something in basic physics called the doppler effect, he never would have heard him coming anyway. The motorcycle was clearly 100% at fault (not paying enough attention, and not giving himself adequate following distance) but it had nothing to do with hearing the siren or not.
