Doesn’t look like “a piece of crap” to me. Looks, rather, like an ingeniously light design. And the result is wonderful. More like this, please.

Thanks Paul! I built it about 12 years ago, from plans that I had drawn up, which sadly, no longer exist. I designed it around the one film holder that I had. The weakest point was the bellows I made for it. I replaced it with a bellows made by Custom Bellows in the UK, a few months ago. There's a video of replacing it in my channel. I plan on getting out more with it in the next little while! Thank you for commenting!

Camera looks great. Bought film holder and 14x17 X-ray film a while back. Never figured out the film processing part. All I find to read is about how tray processing scratches the double sided film.

I have no scratching issues with double-sided film in flat-bottomed trays. Stay away from conventional, ribbed, darkroom trays! If you don't have any flat-bottomed trays, try placing a piece of plate glass or acrylic in the bottom of a regular tray. I did that before finding a flat-bottomed tray. Worked well. No scratches.🙂

Amazing. I loved the video and the details and the cool slow process. I'd love to build the camera, because I too would like to do such large prints.. Would you mind sharing the plans for it? Thanks a ton.

I'd love to share the plans with you but I built the camera back in 2011. The plans are long gone. Basically, I used birch (cheap) and I built it around the film holder's dimensions. The film holder was not only the most important part, but most expensive at the time. I've since replaced the bellows (there's a video of it in my channel), making it the most expensive part of the camera! The bellows was made by Keith at Custom Bellows in England. I highly recommend his work! Cheers and thank you for watching and commenting!

@@analogueandy8x10 Thanks for your kind reply. I understand you may not have ready plans. I think I would like to make something with MDF rather than wood since I would like to use some industrial processes to cut them up. I think I will come back and make the best use of your videos to make my camera. Thanks in advance for enlightening the world 🙂

Andrew, nice job. I love your casual approach. No rush with 14x17. Nice looking camera BTW. I've got so much 14x17 Xray film and 14x17 film in general. I need to get mine out more. X-ray film can be finicky out in the field I find.

Jim! How's it going? I appreciate your input. I slapped the camera together back in 2011. Haven't used it as much as I thought I would but... I started using it more recently, and I'm starting to go through my modest stash of 14x17 XRAY...I will probably have to order another box, one of these days. I'm very much hooked on this double-sided, green stuff. I only have one holder, so if I want to shoot more, I have to bring along the Harrison film tent....

I do love Kallitype printing. My only criticism is that it's tough getting consistent colour from print to print. I started making Salt prints a few months ago. I'm really liking the look and consistency from print to print is much better.

Thank you! For this video it's double-sided green latitude. I expose it at ISO 80. I got it from cxs.online. That brand isn't available anymore, but they do have Fuji Super HR-U Ortho Green. I've not used this brand, but once I run out of current supply, I will order some. I'm assuming it is double-sided, but if not, that's okay, as double-sided is more prone to scratching. I prefer using green latitude as it's orthochromatic, and responds well to yellow and green filters. I've been using xray films for 15 years. They are fun to use, and dirt cheap! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask! Have a great day!

@@gerardodalchielelueiro6818 I use a flat-bottomed tray to process double-sided xray film. There are not very many options to process 14x17 inch film. I also use 8x10 in flat-bottomed trays, but sometimes I use hangers for semi-stand, or stand development. I don't use the hangers for normal processing, as too much developer is wasted, and if you are not careful with agitation, you can end up with surge marks on the film. I also use D-23 diluted 1+1. 6:00 20C... or Pyrocat-HD.

Hello. I really like your videos, congratulations. I have been using fuji super HR-U x-ray film and developed with D-76, how about that developer? Another question, with that film, what filters do you recommend using. ? Thanks, greetings from Colombia

I like to use D-23 at 1+1 dilution. I mix the developer from scratch.
@analogueandy8x10

You should be able to use D-76, but I would dilute it first. Undiluted will probably give too much contrast. Try diluting it 1+2, or 1+3.

@@analogueandy8x10 Perfect, thank you very much. Have you done tests with dektol, would it also have to be diluted?
@analogueandy8x10

Yes, definitely, especially if you are after continuous tone negatives. Dektol is diluted for photo papers as it's quite strong. You would have to experiment with how much to dilute for XRAY film.@@intifadastencil
