doing the opposite of a floofy dress cleanse this year - I'm 100% a fancy dress person and I have so many 'boring' plain clothes like jeans that I buy because I feel like I 'should' be that kind of person, but I never wear them! So I'm getting rid of those and investing a few more dresses so I don't wear the same three all the time

I so understand you. I hate wearing jeans, I'm a skirt and dress kind of girl yet for years I kept buying jeans in the hope I would get into them because you do kind of feel weird not to considering how common they are. But I never end up wearing them anyway. It's a waste of money and this year I've fully embraced my style and I'll just go all out, fuck boring jeans. Even if I get looks for wearing a skirt/dress at really casual places.

One method i use for getting rid of clothes is switching all the hangers backwards and as i wear items i switch the hanger forewards. I am 100% on board with the anti-haul concept! I don't think the sparkly dress is inherently inappropriate, but if it's not right for YOU, that's all that's needed for it to go away. Your references to aging make me snicker when you say you're "almost 30," and when you bring out the beauty products you pretty much lose me-we have very different lives! Even so, I do enjoy watching what you have to say about certain concepts, even if how those concepts are reflected in my life are radically different. ;)

I find your point of view about hauls very interesting. I too find it sometimes over bearing to watch all the 'stuff' people 'consume' however some of these hauls have helped me in a very significant way. You see, I used to shop a lot and at the end of the year i'd give away stuff like clothes shoes etc. Thing is, some of them I did not even wear and I could not understand why I spend money, almost unconsciously on clothes shoes etc ... that I don't use. Then I decided to not buy anything for a year ... to purge. Well it lasted 6 months but it did help. But what I actually discovered is that because of my love for fashion, I actually did not want the clothes, i just wanted to see them, fit them or see someone else do that ...hence HAULS! And let me tell you, I hardly buy clothes now unless I really have to. Hauls have been my REHAB for my shopping habit LOL

Age appropriate...like why would you put that? If your 40, 50, 60, 70 wear what you want. There is nothing like age appropriate as long as it’s comfortable and looks good on you. I hate it when people say oh I’m 40 I shouldn’t be on stan tweet or something like that. It’s ok as long as you feel young at heart don’t let anyone tell you anything otherwise🤷♀️

Sierra O’Con Sierra O’Con maybe but she does assert from 2:32 “they tend make you look like your trying to be young-“ this is what she had to say about those dresses and she is only turning 30 which I didn’t know was a huge age and you are no longer young from then. In no means I am saying that she is wrong in saying that she herself is looking old or something it’s how she feels and I respect that. But in such a channel that is giving advice to the millennials and many more it’s sort of asserting that by thirty your youth is gone and you are an old person who should dress like you are ‘mature’ and not ‘try to look young’. Dress how ever you want wear that sparkly dress and be as beautiful as want as long as you are satisfied that’s all. A number shouldn’t dictate on what you should or shouldn’t do unless it correlates with your health.💜
@bangtan9606
5 жыл бұрын
Sierra O’Con I’m not labeling her as an ageist, but just trying to say that since she is the one giving advice regarding it she should be clear that ‘yes it is my opinion and so I’m doing it’. That’s all. I see many others in the comment have also disagreed with her, so it’s should have been made clear by her. I’m not throwing hate on her or anything. I hope you are reading this on a neutral note. And stan tweet is twitter but twitter if you are a fan of a group or an artist and you are there to support, protect and love the artist as well as communicate and connect with other fans. And many assume the fans are only female teens and tweens but it’s so diverse in age, gender, color, nationality. It’s really nice to see different people doing what they like. If I came off as a bit too hard on my point, my bad. But she needs to make her point clear to avoid misunderstandings in the future. 💜

Agreed. I understand if something doesn’t suit your personal style or lifestyle anymore, but saying you’re “too old” for a style of dress or “too ruddy” for bright colors is troubling. These statements are reflections of oppressive expectations about how people “should” dress and behave. They make us feel bad about what makes us happy.
@YourFavoriteHayley
5 жыл бұрын
I understand in so far as I went through trying a 40-60s vintage/rockabilly phase and then a “kitten and dots” ModCloth phase ... well into my 30s ... and I “felt” “too old” in them, I felt “fraudulent” but it’s not specifically the clothes fault or my ages fault ... there are way older people rocking the look. It just wasn’t honest to my fashion sense or who I really am/how I really want to look, it was something I “thought” I “should” do/look/want. And I think that triggers the “too old for feeling.” You’re not actually too old, you’re just picking up something like a trend like young people do. I feel “too old” for anything that isn’t honest for me or forcing myself to do anything I used to do but grew out of, am past that “phase” whatever it is. No items are wrong for any age as much as they become wrong for individuals at phases in their lives when they realize they’re not a match for what they really want .

As of their “Minimalism Sucks” video, which pushed me to check out the TFD website, it’s become quite clear these ladies don’t know how to separate things they don’t like on a personal level from what is/isn’t appropriate for everyone. I am becoming increasingly disappointed with this channel.

Please check out Kimberly Clark - a fabulous queen and a beauty youtuber who talked about anti-hauls and anti-consumerism a few years ago.

Signal boost. KC's Anti-Hauls rippled through the beauty/fashion community last year and in years before and really helped change a lot of people's attitudes toward consumerism in that arena. I think it's important to give credit her way.

People love to give useless things for Christmas. The best part of having just bought a house in November is that all of the Christmas presents I got this year came straight from the Amazon list I sent out to friends and family of household items that I needed.

I am not a huge fan of how this comes off as shame-y? Like being honest is different than saying how ridiculous you would look in something. This def could be me being sensitive and I think you were just trying to be lighthearted and funny but it came off as a harsh judgement of "dress your age".

I love this video so much. I'm here for the anti-haul. So refreshing on KZitem I do have to mention, though, the comment about the 19 year old and the airbrushed-looking body felt a bit cringey. Was there a need to throw shade on physical appearances? I'm here for pointing out how this lifestyle is costly and unnecessary. But that can be done without putting a woman (or a type of woman) down.

I sold 90% of my items before moving to Las Vegas in June. Everything that is currently in my apartment had to fit in the trunk. It was all my kitchen equipment that I use (professional cook so every tool has a purpose and I use every single one of those items) and 1 small suitcase and backpack. I don't know if I could ever go back to consuming myself with nonsense materialistic things anymore.

I don't know if anyone has pointed it out but it might be nice if you credited the creator of the anti-haul (Kimberly Clark) in the notes. I hate the term “age appropriate.” Who dictates that? If you like something and it flatters you, then rock it! I am not saying rocking crop top and booty shorts. Let something go because your style or body is evolving, not because you are solely getting order.

This anti-haul is classic! Ironically enough, I've been working on an anti-haul recently as well, selling items I no longer need via the apps LetGo and VarageSale. NextDoor is a helpful site to sell (or even buy) items on too! I'm not a hoarder or anything, but I've been prepping for a new season of life, so the few items (certain kitchenware, clothes, etc.) that are no longer "me," I'm getting rid of via those apps, Goodwill, etc. It's been quite liberating!
