I was very happy with the performance of this filter (non uv model) my Ehiem crapped out after many years and i couldnt get it to work properly so i needed a new filter asap, ordered off amazon and again, very happy. My only gripe is its rather noisy, its not horrible, but compared to the ehiem and rina filstars, it is. The impeller trick reduced it to a more reasonable level. I had it perfect but transporting it over to the tank after a cleaning made it a bit loose. For the price, you get a bit on the flimsy side of plastics but otherwise its well worth the money.

Been running my 704B for about a half year in an overstocked over filtered 37 gal tank full of Rusty Cichlids. Initially it became noisy after a few days and it took me a while to figure out that pre-filter blockage on the intake was the culprit. Had to buy a larger coarser pre-filter and squeeze it out when it becomes full - no noise no problem. After watching your videos I bought my Sun Sun on sale for $69. Love this quiet powerful monster. For only $300 more I could have bought a Fluval FX6 ;-{) BTW - KZitem stopped email notifications for all my subscribed channels including yours. One KZitemr wrote that KZitem no longer notifies his subscribers by email.

I ran a 704b for a couple of years. Powerful filter. I did have issues with noise at 1st. I rubbed the impeller magnet with silicone grease. It worked until the filter got broken in and it became very quite. The problem is the UV light design is terrible. When I cleaned the filter there would be water in the glass housing that is supposed to keep the bulb dry. I tried to seal it by rubbing silicone grease on the o ring seal. Didn’t work. Finally the water corroded the electrical connection. I retired the filter. I still have it as a backup in case of emergency. If SunSun would release a version of this filter I would buy it. The UV light is to small anyway for a large filter like the 704 b

I had a high pitched whining noise coming from my daughter's brand new Polar Aurora 525 gallon canister filter after setup after a few hours. Shaking and tipping it (releasing air) would fix it for an hour then the high pitched whining noise would return. Turns out the outflow nozzle tube was too restrictive and causing back-pressure on the pump. Drilling out the holes to a larger size (increasing flow) eliminated the noise permanently.

Ben, I have a question. I'm about to purchase a Oase biomaster thermo 250 canister filter for my 40 gal. freshwater aquarium. However, I've read comments from people that own them. They all complain about "burping," releasing air bubbles into the aquarium, and/or has low flow rates. I would like to know if its possible to replace the impeller that will come with the filter, that I'm planning to buy, with a bigger impeller? Would that fix the problem?
@BenOchart

That’s a question you should ask Oase. The impeller section is usually pretty tight so I’m not sure if a larger one is even possible.

I've tried to contact the company in various ways they don't respond and I can't find parts for it anywhere. I also have a fluval FX6 on the tank as well so at least it's working great. Update: called them and they answered right away. I am waiting for them to send me an invoice for the parts I need. if you have one that's less than a year old and you have the receipts they will send them for free. In my case I don't have the receipt.

It's a beast when it works. Mine leaked from the valve too. Didn't even make it 24 hours. Took over a month for Ming Trading to send a replacement. Now it's sounding like a grinding noise and like it's sucking in air. I'm going back to Fluval myself. Rumors are, and why you can't find the hw-5000 or any parts, is they're temporarily discontinuing it to rework a couple things due to all the complaints.

@@BenOchart i might return the marineland canister i got like 2 weeks ago. Ever since i opened the box it seemed like the filter they sent me was used. I've tried adjusting the impeller many times and checked for leaks but no matter what it keeps making that sound. Last thing i will try is adding some Vaseline to the impeller. Apparently that's what some do to their canister filters to make them run quiet so it doesn't hurt to try i guess. As a matter of fact when I first got this canister filter it was coated with this grease like stuff in multiple places including the impeller. I freaked out a d that that wasn't gonna be good for my fish so i cleaned off all the grease and maybe that's what caused this rattling.. but anyways il let you know if the grease fixes my rattling problem

I took the rubber ring off the top of my canister filter to check it. It was fine so I popped the ring back on, but I didn’t put it back in exactly the same position. Because it was a used ring it was compressed in a few spots. When I didn’t put it back in the exact same spot it let a very small amount of air into the canister - rattled like hell. Such a small error and once corrected it went back to being whisper quiet. But it took me three days to work out what I had done incorrectly. 🥺🥺🥺
