Okay I’ve got it. It’s a heist survival factory game. In the planning phase you build a base in the mountains, and then you go into the heist phase and speed parkour around the mountain to collect all the ores and if you die then you get some permanent upgrades and start with a new base on the mountain. You can call it “To Kill the Mountain Speedily”

Haven't really given a try to automation style of games, but I noticed myself being really intrigued by mine the mountain the whole mix of automation gameplay with more real-time gameplay like building with the purpose of reaching higher and higher towards the very top of this gaint mountain seems really cool to me like once you've grinded out one biome you can go onto another one and explore and experience new features like thunderstorm you mentioned but also since you have a stairway you can also go back down to your previous biome I think the mountain being cut into different biomes give players variety when it comes to gameplay more to explore more to engage with and maybe to even push an automation genre of a game more into the realm of sandbox games, well that's just my thought process all the other games sound cool as well and I totally understand if you won't go with mine the mountain since working on atrio must've already been one heck of a challenge so jumping into another automation game might not be what you feel like doing anyways great job with atrio and good luck :)

The raccoon game sounds like it would be fun for the idea of running around on the maps that you make, but building something. Something that I don't have fun in games with. The roguelite sounds exactly like a game i would play. My vote: devil game

mine the Mountain for sure, I love automation games, and putting a vertical twist on sounds amazing, the biomes make it fresh and not repetitive (especially if they would be randomly generated) and with a good art style it would be the game of the year (the raccoon game sounds pretty good since platformers are also pretty fun for me but the third game would be just another rogue-like) however to mine the mountain is ahead the other 2 games by a mile (ps: you shouldn't let the audience pick, do whatever you want to do most)

problem with the racoon heist game is that the player has to build too much of the raccoon's path, to the point that each level would be identical. The player just builds a smooth path from start to finish each time. Sonic feels fast not just because of speed, but also momentum. That means he can't change direction easily without booster pads etc. Modern buildings that a raccoon would steal from have lots of 90 degree angles, which means lots of changes in direction. In teardown the player doesn't have momentum (outside of vehicles), so the player can move fast through buildings. The raccoon can't without help, which would be the same kind of help each level, which may get repetitive. If the racoon could bounce off walls or otherwise handle 90 degree angles better it might work. Could also make the level have more curves, or have placed objects depend on the geometry they're on. (e.g. portals point in direction of wall)

I absolutely love the automation game! As a person who sunk over 1000 hours into factorio and enjoyed other automation games i feel like this idea is absolutely golden if executed properly. The fact that you have to climb the mountain and the biomes change as you rise is an idea that i love, specially since i love this anime called "Made in abyss" . No spoilers but the anime revolves around climbing down into a deep naturally created hole in the ground, as you go deeper the biomes and many other things change. If you watch this i assure you would get some really good ideas for the context of your game. Goodluck, i hope this one wins!

_I am speed_ is a really unique concept that I could see being a really fun coop game on top of a solid single player one and _To kill the devil_ 's deployable base would solve my main gripe with roguelikes, but my vote has to go to _Mine the mountain_ , it sounds like the most doable of the three and would leverage the most out of the experience you've already gained from _Atrio_ My only gripe is the name "Mine the mountain" just sounds, ironically, really plain

Hey Doinkler, I really like the idea of Kill the Devil (although maybe with a better name)! I feel that people my age who grew up playing Minecraft will constantly start over new worlds and abandon old ones, constantly replaying the initial gameplay loop of building a home and getting basic gear and creating a home. If maybe you could turn that gameplay loop into a rogue like and perhaps make it multiplayer and challenging I think it could be very popular!

Or maybe it could resemble a Minecraft speed run in the way that one is constantly resetting for better map layouts and ring drops but perhaps with more enemy variety and bosses

That last game (To Kill the Devil) sounds really interesting. I mean they all do but right now I'm talking about To Kill The Devil. I love roguelite games, but I especially enjoy when they implement character building - especially when you have a choice. It sounds very similar to some of the games I've been playing recently, and I would love to see more of a good thing. It's a hard choice, but I think I have to recommend the third game above the other two. The first game has a LOT of potential, and I'd love to see that game, but I'm afraid of how difficult those puzzles would be -- whether to design or to play. As for the second game, although I'm a big fan of automation, the concept feels like it's missing something. Like I feel like there could be story nuggets, or some extra challenge imposed, in order to motivate the player to see what might be at the top. And it's still a great concept, just like the other two. It just has rough competition. So if I have to choose, I think it has to be number 3 (To Kill The Devil).

the third and first are the best choices. Though i voted the first simply because the idea is a lot more original and i can see it being a really fun game to play that would become popular. and your point about competition in automation, roguelikes are the most overused genre in the indie space it gets boring after a while so there is a lot of competition for it too. But this roguelike actually has a unique and fucking cool idea id love to play so it was hard but ultimately i voted heist game!
@FireallyXTheories
Жыл бұрын
Can I vote for not the heist one? I like them all, but the other two are so unique and I can't decide which is better. Vertical automation is super cool with mechanics based on gravity, climbing, and magical mountain is so fresh, but so is Roguelight base builder that is one reason why I loved Emerald Rogue was you had a lot of macro (all run) and micro (this run) options and tools to play around with like the nuggets, buying moves, switching starting Pokemon. Normally I'm stuck into liking Roguelikes more but when something like that is on the table, let me at it!

Use Donut County (PC) and Over the Hedge (Nintendo DS / 3D Movie) as ref: Raccoons can steal stuff (materials & tools) in order to build their platforms and reach the treasure. Coins like sonic tho are kinda meh, it would be better to have few items to actually steal and not just run through like sonic. A narartive aspect to the game like donut county and Over the Hedge.

All 3 games are fantastic. However, I do believe that “to kill the devil” is the weakest of the three. The other two are so new and ingenuitive that another rogue like doesn’t stand out enough.

Here’s my thought: The Raccoon Game is great sounding, and maybe it’s just a because of how simple the concept render was, but I feel like it’d be limiting to stick with a small set of variability in puzzle features, and easy to over saturate with mechanics. Mine the mountain sounds awesome, but it does seem pretty similar to atrio. Ultimately, I pick to kill the Devi as my favorite.
@sscoutflower

I love the idea of I Am Speed! I saw the stream with Atrioc talking about the challenges of making it co-op due to players having to wait and watch. What if there were mechanics that required concurrent gameplay? For example, enemies chasing you while you try to build the platforms, so the speedy racoon has to distract them. Or materials in the level that are required to build the necessary structures to clear the level, but the builder racoon can't get to them, so the fast racoon has to help him. You could take it a step further and make the characters even more customizable, with the powerups (new types of platforms, double jumps, etc) coming in the form of choices like a rogue-lite, rather than linear progression. And you could even make it more than 2 players - imagine a 4 player co-op where two people are frantically building platforms while the other two run around kicking woodland creatures off the ones that are already built on the way to the goal. You could keep the slow-paced, strategic/story driven version in a separate mode where you switch off between building and platforming. That mode could be single player or have the ability to play in co-op at a more relaxed pace. That way you could have a mode that's true to the original idea, with the racoons pulling off the heist of the century, but also include a mode that appeals to streamers who want something like PlateUp that is faster paced and allows for collaboration. Just my 2 cents as someone who is most likely to watch streamers play, rather than play myself.

I really like risk of rain and i also really like factorio and satisfactory ! , could you maybe mix up Mine the mountain with some rouge like concepts of risk of rain , where in you can still keep the original idea of the shrines, just that each biome of the mountain is home to these different shrines , each of which is controleld by a devil and thus many dwarves havent gone up it yet , so yeah i am thinking something like Vertical Valheim mixed with some risk of rain styled special items that can be crafted instead of found ? Maybe this is a lot of sub objectives, but would sure make an interesting concept ! rooting for your next game !
