Your locs are coming along very nicely! I don't twist at all either; I just seperate. I do use oil but only once a month. My freeform locs are only two months old in the front half. Eight months old in the back half. I was tempted to palm roll. Most days I love my wild hair and thick healthy roots. But had a weak moment when I saw another KZitem vlogger with very thick, manicured, laquered up locs. You're one of few female freeformers who seperate and seeing this video inspired me to press on and not use a bunch of products and to not twist. Your locs are gorgeous without all of the DVD extras so I don't need products and twisting, either.

+4mydearlady wow, thank you!! What kind of oil do you use? And I have moments of weakness too when I think about changing them or wanting them thicker, but then I just let them be how they turn out naturally, and they'll be happier in the long run lol It's tough semi free forming because of the lack of control, but there's a lesson there ;) Thank you so much for the comment and thanks for watching!!

Lauren Jackson You're right the whole lack of control thing is hard to get used to. It's nice to be a black woman who is Zen about her hair in modern society. I only lighlty mist my hair with oil once or twice a month because I believe the natural oils in my hair will suffice between oiling my hair - your hair proves that! The oil I use is a combination of clary sage, rosemary, emu and peppermint for scent. I'm a Generation X-er, bit older than you. So my hair is drier. I experience brittle hair and breakage if I abstain altogether from oil. If I was younger, I doubt I would need oil.

Your locs look really healthy and are growing. Are you free- forming your locs? Do you know about Curlynugrowth channel? She also has thick locs and she has a video on Do's and Don't for locs. She talks about locs jewelry and dyeing locs too. I also used Dr. Bonner's soap when I had baby locs, I would put a small amount in an applicator bottle and fill it with mostly water. It really cleans locs without stripping the oils. There is nothing wrong with washing your locs twice or once a week. I used to wash mine every 2 weeks, but this past summer my locs had grown past my neck and I would sweat a lot. I would wash my locs sometimes twice or 3 times in one week. My locs love water and I had a major growth spurt and they are going down my back. Right now I 'm using Palmer's moisturizing shampoo, and just coconut oil as a leave in conditioner.

+MsMalika64 I've been subscribed to Curlynugrowth for awhile now! Her videos are so informative, I honestly learned a lot about locs through her before I started! And I also wash my hair at least once a week because of the hot, humid temperatures here in Florida. I'm technically not free forming, because I do manipulate my hair. A loctician separated my locs the first month, and after that I never went back and don't use wax or gels. I do twist my hair sometimes to keep the loose hairs and frizz together, but I'm trying to do it much less! I like the natural look of locs, personally. How do you use your coconut oil in your locs? As a spray or using your hands? Thank you for your comment and thanks for watching! :)

Beautiful crown, how do you keep em all so cylindrical and rounded? Most freedom locs I see begin to partially flatten out after a couple of months. Any tips/advice? Respect

+Amin Cowa I semi-freeform, so technically I do not get retwist, use gel, wax, oils, or anything really. When I first wake up, my locs are a little more flat, but every morning I also run the shower water through my hair (almost to wake them up lol) and I twist the loose hairs back into place over time, and that's all I do. So, there is some manipulation going on, but that's all there is to it. But everyone's hair is different, but that's how my hair turned out. Are you freeforming? Thanks for your comment!

Thanks for the quick reply, I guess I'm semi free forming to, I'm basically guided by you, watching your videos and pretty much copying. Your right about the morning water it does get them back on swollen the way I like.. Thanks for the class!

+WutsoevrThngsRLuvly you are very welcome, I appreciate you watching the videos! And when I first wake up, my locs tend to be flatter. But after I take a shower in the morning and let the water "wake up" my locs, they tend to go back to normal.

Really LOVING your locs! You mentioned dry locs...have you ever watched Yannie the Locologist videos? I actually just found her earlier this week...She suggests less washing and more spritzing with rosewater and vitamin E oil...she is also semi-freeform & uses Dr Bronners like you! Thanks for sharing!!

+Kayan Hales you are very welcome! And I watch Yannie's videos all the time!! Her treatments work wonders, like night and day! And I agree with the less washing thing, I've cut back this past month now that my hair has matured more. Vitamin E oil is something I'm definitely looking into as well. Thank you so much for watching!
