Thanks for the tips on the mods, I just picked up one of these at the Kapunda swap for $30. Needs a little love but it's all there

Just picked one up very similar to yours. Mine's branded Herless RF-115. Cost me $70 at a yard sale, so they hold their value well even second hand. Though a new one is now in the $600-$700 range thanks to our funny money. Nice mods you've done on yours. So far I've just cleaned mine up and Addis it to cut straight but will definitely be doing some of those mods at some point.

Thank you for the video. I also bought a 2nd hand one exactly like yours but it is called a Chevpac RF115 and I couldn't understand why the top pulley bearing was not a roller bearing and thought it was a home made brass bearing ,but now I see it really is a brass bearing. Thanks a million. You did an excellent job restoring this saw.

Hi Louwrens, I think you will find the bush is bronze, not brass. Brass would wear too quickly. The pulley turns relatively slowly so bronze does the job. Cheers Rob

Hi Rob, Great set of mods. Something I've done is to flip the "L" bracket between the sping & the threaded handle on the arm tensioner. Gives 25mm more travel, hence more adjustment in arm weight. The other, yet to be done, is to drill & tap the top pulley so it can get a drop of GL-4 oil to the bushing, with a threaded plug to keep the oil in there. Keep up the great videos!

Hi Graeme, Interesting stuff. I had considered putting a grease nipple in the top pulley, but the resident grease seems to do OK. The pulleys actually turn quite slowly, so lube should last a long time. These certainly are a handy, labour saving machine. Cheers Rob

I found another Taiwanese one for similar money for my Bro-Inlaw, but it was complete and no wear, just missing the blade, so I grabbed that. He was happy and it was actually a better deal than the one in the video. They are out there, just keep looking. I haven't seen one listed for a while, but that's how things go. Feast or famine ;) Cheers Rob

What's the largest diameter solid mild steel bar you've cut with this saw ? ... I'm thinking of buying similar.

70 mm. I've also cut that diameter in high carbon steel trailer axle round stock without issue. I do have a one HP motor on it though. I generally lube large diameter cuts. Cheers Rob

$35 AU for a 14/18 variable pitch blade. I've sourced wood bandsaw blades from the same saw works and they last well. They only sell industrial quality stuff. Rob

Hey Rob, love your vids!! Question ...... I recently acquired a used small Horizontal metal bandsaw. It's just like yours. I cannot seem to get the blade to track properly. The blade will run at the shoulder of the idler pulley like it's supposed to, but on the drive pulley it's runs about half way off.... The idler pulley seems to have a tiny bit of play but very little, seems almost like it's normal for a saw like this. The drive pulley has zero play. No matter what I do once I get the correct tension this is how it ends up. Any ideas? Thanks
@Xynudu
6 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean, Mine's the same. The bottom pulley is half off while the idler is up against the shoulder. Must be the way they make them. Shouldn't be any play when the blade is tensioned. The idler will flop around on the adjusting block when it's loosened off - normal. Glad you like the vids. Cheers Rob

thanks Rob! Glad to hear this is common. Also I find when cutting a 2x2 square tubing the cutoff will have about .007-.008 difference between top and bottom. would you say that's an acceptable amount of blade wandering for a saw like this?
@Xynudu
6 жыл бұрын
Hi Sean, That sounds pretty good to me. That's a lot better than many folks get out of these things. If the blade scrapes the whole way up the cut when you lift the arm it's OK by me ;) Cheers Rob

DO YOU REMEMBER THE NUMBER OF TPI ON YOUR ACME THREAD AND WHAT THE SETTING ON YOUR LATHE WHERE
@Xynudu
7 жыл бұрын
No. That was quite a while back. Count the number of threads for a given length of the tightening shaft and divide by the number of inches to get the TPI. Then set up your lathe for that pitch. Make up a chisel nosed boring bar of the thread width and go from there. Cheers Rob
