1) If you don't practice, get over yourself. 2) Know your 'fairway' with each club so you can know how to effectively set your targets. 3) You aren't putting for dough if you can drive it in play, and long enough to reach most of the greens in reg. Perfectly said, Gen. Thanks for another solid video.

great tips Gen, after more than 20 years I got my buddy to take some lessons, after he did he said I should of done that years ago lol . he also said all the stuff I'd been telling is what his instructor was saying, but it helped him a lot plus he finally learned how to practice on the range instead of just hammering balls out and not paying attention to where he was even hitting the ball. My cousin on the other hand complains nonstop yet refuses to go to the range or get a real lesson he's just cheap lol

Steadily reducing the loft of the clubface, rather than increasing the loft of the clubface, during the downswing, specially during the release phase of the downswing, will enable many beginners to immediately hit pro-like shots that fly long and true. Unless a player is striping all the shots long and straight down the fairway and on to the green, decreasing the loft of the clubface during the release phase of the downswing will turn weak inaccurate shots into zooming, penetrating, and accurate pro-like shots. This is because reducing the loft of the clubface will at the same time close the clubface from opened back to a squared clubface at impact, that will generate the maximum backspin on the ball at impact. Maximum backspin works like the wings of an airplane, which enable the ball to fly and glide for maximum distances. Maximum pure backspin also produces the gyroscopic effect of keeping the ball straight and penetrating.

Score matters even if your not pro, it let's you know if your improving. If you don't practice..and there's no excuse cause there's lots of things that can be work on to improve game the only thing you can count on is to be consistency poor at golf. You get back what you put in, so true for golf.

For years, I wondered why my shots to the green were often short. I thought I was just getting older and weaker. Then I tried your "carry distance" approach last weekend and could not believe how many pin high shots I made in a single round. It was like magic. And your advice about fretting about inconsistency (which I always do) is so true. I go to the driving range twice at the start of spring (for a total of 3 hours practice per year), which is laughable. Really can't expect consistency without practice. Thank you Gen, for your excellent advice and encouragement. Please keep them coming and wish you the best in your golf career.

Interesting video, most amateurs expect to play like pros but dont practice or just go to the range to whack drivers 100 times into the netting. On the course there is no course management and just hit driver all the time when there is no need. Great quote about 'nobody cares', even if you play in comps/medals it is still the same, you go home to tell ur family of your score and great shots, they dont care. I am restarting golf after 5 years layoff and will be a new approach, play for me, practice properly and will be avoiding competitions.

That’s so true … I think WE tend to hit away from trouble, instead of hitting TO a TARGET. I mean, I for one will aim at the left rough when there’s trouble on the right, which usually results in a bad lie in the rough or trouble left (and then I wonder why I don’t hit enough fairways🤔). I need to pick a TARGET that leaves me in good shape and consider the hazards, but not hit away from them. Also, I know you’re right. I use ARCCOS sensors in my clubs and I finally know how far I hit each club; and you’re right, even my best shot is not as far as I think. So I know the guys I play with think they hit it farther than they do. Also true, ARCCOS tells me where I miss, left or right. And it’s pretty even although I may think I hit one way or the other more. I also have a reputation of over-shooting greens, but according to ARCCOS I leave it SHORT more often than long, or left OR right. One other thing you didn’t mention, … most of the guys I play with leave it short MUCH more often than they should. Whether they’re pitching, chipping or PUTTING. WHAT’s the old adage, “never up never in”? It’s interesting you say “focus on technique”. I think most of US are too focused on swing mechanics on the course, rather than (as you say) “play golf”. You’re right, we don’t practice enough; and that’s where we should work on mechanics. Therefore, we are constantly working at fixing our swing during the round, instead of focusing on getting the ball in the hole. Great stuff, Gen (as always) 👏🏻 One of your BEST videos yet. Keep up the good work … and keep playing hard 👊🏻 You’re so close to your goal! #TeamGen

I will say, after watching Gen and Sidekick, I did score my lowest score ever despite my poor irons. My irons are a good 30 yards shorter in carry from 2019, it's been difficult to swallow that, I don't know what happened, not that they were long but that is difficult to adjust to such a big difference. Then when I get to my wedges, they all carry about the same just different apex. I mean my 58 full swing is about 85 yards while my 50 is about 85 yards just lower, that is carry of course 50 rolls out more.

You think telling us that we don't practice enough to be consistent will make us upset? LOL! I KNOW I stink... I did wonder about the white powder. That said, I watched and loved your videos on course management, which included playing safe shots (and picking the back of the green as the distance) after thinking about my misses and hazards.

I've played golf 18 days of the last 20 days, last Saturday, I played 2 rounds and had one of the best rounds of my life with an 85!!! Every year my best approach distance is different, this year is very odd being 160 to 175 yards. Previous years it was 85 to 105 yards, oddest thing! After Covid, my carry distances are so inconsistent from inside 150 yards. Sometimes I feel like all my wedges (50, 54, 58, 60) carry the same distance, height is the only difference. I need to go for lessons. Playing smart allows a good score but that's it.

For most people they want the fun part of playing it and want to get better without the second part of the time and work involved. I get paired in rounds with so many people who out on the course trying to make swing changes. Or simply go to the range and witness so many people just there smashing balls without a purpose.
