When you're from England and have no idea what an American girl doll is.. but I can tell it was the bomb

They're an amazing series of very detailed (and expensive) dolls that are serious characters. They have books written about each one of them and are usually extremely accurate to their time period. They capture the life of an American girl through wardrobe, story, and proper history. I highly recommend them for any child interested in American history.

If you ever get a chance, I'd recommend one of (the character/doll) Molly's books, _Happy Birthday, Molly!._ Her father is fighting abroad in WWII, and an English girl called Emily comes to stay with her. They have a sweet culture clash before coming to appreciation of the difficulties both have faced, having fathers who are fighting.

I remember always looking through the catalog when it would come in the mail bc my family couldn’t afford it, then my family surprised me with the baby doll from American Girl and a few accessories which was equivalent to around 150$, safe to say I didn’t complain or ask for anything for MONTHS 😭

My mom always felt like my grandma was being mean because my grandma signed us up for the catalog. We couldn't afford any of it, and I never had anything AG related but I loved that catalog so much. The only time I forged my mom's signature was when I was playing, I filled out the form for a customized doll with a wheel chair. My mom was super mad, she was like: "And where were you going to get the check from?" 😂😂😂😂

This is awesome! At the time, my family couldn't afford a real AG doll, but I still obsessed over the catalogs constantly. I was able to buy myself some of the accessories. So I have the little purple backpack with the insanely detailed books and everything. The new things they're making can't hold a candle to the quality and attention to detail they had back then.

Oh god I was so jealous of our neighbors who had Samantha and all of her accessories! I was so mad because we couldn’t afford it but these kids who could, absolutely destroyed the whole collection by treating it like trash. If you haven’t seen how insanely detailed and beautiful the early Samantha collection is, you have to google it! If I wasn’t an adult or if the stuff wasn’t so ridiculously expensive, I would buy it for myself lol

OMG! I had the Rollerblade set and the yellow metal bunk beds with those same sleeping bags! I also had the whole horseback rider set including the horse! Oh, and the adorable snow outfit with the cutest earmuffs! My first AG was Samantha. Then I got Kirsten. Then Josefina and Felicity! I had their beds and pajamas and what not as well. I was obsessed with AG, so much so that I had a real life size matching outfit to my doll... it was very early y2k (00-01) then pants looked like something out of the movie Zenon. They were like grey flared yoga pants with silver metallic side pockets on the thighs and one of those "layered" looking shirts where it looked like a t-shirt over a long sleeve but it was all one shirt 😅 it was a lime green t with purple AG logo, white sleeves with purple stars I think going down the sleeve. I rocked that outfit ALL the time! Oh man, good times, good times! 😂

Don't get rid of it! (But if you do, make sure you get a truly fair price, especially for how well-kept your things look. When you and I were buying from AG, the quality was _significantly_ higher than what they started selling in the early/mid-2000s.) I have a safely "archived" (cleaned, then sealed in boxes with silica packets) AG collection for my daughter. I know I could never buy today what I was lucky enough to have back then.
