This guy is an interesting looking character. Well spoken lad. By looking at him, at first glance. Before listening to the rest of the video and results. I would have guessed a biracial person. Maybe 27% - 40% African, 60%-70% European (mostly English/Irish) with a touch of Native American Indian, like 2% - 5%.
@TotallyNotASovietSpy
8 жыл бұрын
+joe smith Ha, a lot of people seem to think I'm biracial, enough to the point that they'd believe me if I were to tell them so. I've never really seen it, though. Interestingly enough, I'm of the opinion that my European ancestry is mostly Ulster-Scots, which I think is corroborated by the results and by the fact that the Ulster-Scots settled in large numbers in Appalachia, where they became the Scotch-Irish. The "bubble" of the Scandinavia region on Ancestry's map also extends to northern Great Britain, so I think that's where most of my percentage came from. Can't be sure, though. :P Thanks for watching and commenting!

You mentioned Goins:Gowen on your mom side as a free person of color. John Gowen was supposedly from Angola. Came in 1600s to US. Was always free. He had a son Mikel. He had a white wife. A few of his sons also had white and Indian wives. This could be where your European and Native American comes from...and if you do indeed descend from this line, we are very distant cousins from that period. This line for the longest time were FPC, some were "melungeons" (tri-racial isolates). Most people don't realize that in early colonial times, there were indeed mixed marriages, and that free black men also sometimes took white and Indian wives. Just FYI. You can search this family on Internet.

I wish my African regions were more concentrated as yours. Out of my 80% African, my highest region was only 24% Ivory Coast/Ghana. But what can I say. It makes sense that cuz I'm pretty sure there was no organization on how the Africans were distributed along the Americas.
@TotallyNotASovietSpy
8 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty sure that was the case, too, but I've also heard that slave traders sometimes inadvertently wound up selling high numbers of certain groups of African people to particular areas of the United States. For example, a few sources report that somewhere in the neighborhood of 40% of slaves transported to Maryland and Virginia during the colonial era were from the Bight of Biafra, an area in southeastern Nigeria that corresponds to the homeland of the Igbo people.

Yep - you look Nigerian to me. I am not Nigerian myself (I am Lebanese) but I was born and grew up in West Africa. I can pretty much differentiate a Nigerian from say a Ghanaian, a Senegalese, a Cameroonian etc. Just the same way I can differentiate a Lebanese from a Syrian or Iranian or Iraqi or Saudi. Concerning the particular Nigerian tribe that's a little more difficult to tell without DNA because you have some very definite features that are probably European which can throw me off. But a Nigerian native might be able to guess the particular tribe. However, I have met some Yorubas and Igbos and Hausa/Fulanis who share similar facial structure/look.
