So much different and easier than when I was a fashion illustrator in the 1960s and 70s..we didn't have all the markers back then. We had to use brushes and acrylic paint but we also had what was called zip-a-tone for different textures and other techniques. I have some of your markers today but back then the biggest pen we used was called a Rapideograph pen which you would have to change the points to get different lines...thanks for sharing again!

I went to art school in Philadelphia in the late 70's for illustration. I also used a rapidograph pen and hated them cause they would always clog up. You have inspired me to try some new markers and get drawing. Thanks Justine!

Dear Justine, thank you for your awesome and very useful videos. I'd love to find out more about how to use french rulers / and/or any other rulers in fashion drawing. Would you only use French ruler in drawing pattern pieces, or can they be useful in any way when drawing flats of garments? I am just starting out with drawing flats, and drawing straight smooth lines by hand is still tricky. Please help! :) Thanks very much in advance! Kind regards, Maria
@justineleconte
7 жыл бұрын
+Maria Volobueva hi, I only use a French curve when tracing armholes on flat patterns... To draw technical flats, I use other (smaller) curves from the art supply store. For straight lines, I would use a ruler rather than drawing free-hand. However, for flats I now use mainly Adobe Illustrator because this way I can make colors vary without having to draw the same piece twice (& I need a file anyways, for TechPacks & other documents later in the collection development process). I barely draw flats by hand anymore.

what do you think about karl lagerfeld's pencils? they cost 2.800 dollars!!
@justineleconte
7 жыл бұрын
+cande knd hmmm... No one needs to spend that much on pencils. It doesn't make your drawing 4000 times better than with regular pencils of good quality. Many pencil artists use e.g. Faber-Castell, it is expensive enough & no one says they are not good enough!

great video. I'm a little confused in the type of paper to use. the pre drawn croquis or croque can be drawn on a drawing pad then be transfered on a marker paper?
@justineleconte
8 жыл бұрын
+Hawa Love you can draw your croquis on any paper and then place marker paper on top. But if the croquis is on tracing paper, you can even layer up 2 croquis, marker paper on top... and still see your 2 croquis underneath. It is useful e.g. if you want one pose but with the legs position of the other croquis. You can combine!
@formofeve
8 жыл бұрын
+Justine Leconte officiel I think the first method is simple enough for me. thank you! the croque can be drawn in the same drawing notebook with the mood board. Or is it what I prefer? I'm just trying to make my portfolio as best as I can.
@justineleconte
8 жыл бұрын
The moodboard is a different document. Try to make it bigger than a notebook format, it gives a better, stronger impression. I like an A3 paper format, for instance. But choose the size you prefer :-)

Hey , Disha here. I wanted to check about the size of the paper we would need to draw the models. Is A4 size enough?
@justineleconte
8 жыл бұрын
+Disha Rambhiya hey, it is enough for regular sketching (I demonstrate on A4 in my tutorials) but if I want more space (to make the girl bigger, taller & be able to do more details, like for my colored tutorial of the yellow dress) then I take a bigger page e.g. legal size (USA & countries counting in inches) or A3 taken horizontally (other countries). In the end, it is up to you & what you prefer. I would say: the more space, the better 😊
