I like the way records from the 20s and 30s had long intros from the orchestra. Sounds like theres an accordion in there too?? Essentially the band leader wss the main star and vocalists secondary. That all started to change with crosby and sinatra. Great post thanks!

Bing Crosby started with Paul Whiteman, the king of Jazz, as a member of the Rhythm Boys trio. He recorded with them from the late 1920's until the early 1930's, and then he became one of the most popular singers and inspired many singers. Bing may be much popular than Paul Whiteman nowadays, but that's only because of his Christmas songs. In the 1920's and 30's, there were records where the singer was the main star and the orchestra was secondary, but that only applied to popular singers. Irving Kauffman was kind of popular, but the records with him as the main star are a rarity.

@@johntate5722 The group recorded from 1926 to 1930, if i'm correct. They also starred with Whiteman in 1930's (the year, not the decade) The King of Jazz. There's a scene from this movie on KZitem, "Happy Feet", which is a musical number featuring Bing and the Rhythm Boys, as well as a "Sisters G" (a German sister act), Al Norman (rubber legs), dancing chorus girls and the bandleader himself. The best copy of this scene is by a channel called "ronnieshow", and the video's title is "King of Jazz - Happy Feet [1930]". It's in great quality and features the entire scene. Other copies have parts of the chorus girl act cut out, as well as the Paul Whiteman dance, and they're in worse quality. The bandleader dances after he talks to Charles Irwin about how he could always dance, which happens after the chorus girl part ends. The dancer is not actually him, which becomes obvious after the dance. I've seen this video so many times, but i've never counted how much i watched the video, due to how entertaining and enjoyable it is. I guess it's over 100. I've also watched this video many times.

@@Satans_Legion_of_Evil thanks again. I think i saw king of jazz in the late 80s on uk tv. V good. Wish i'd taped it. It was sort of a set of acts wasnt it, as if you had gone to a music theatre and saw a succession of performers? (ie no plot). I'm sure someone sang "in (old?) Monterrey" - not 100% sure of the title - in somewhat operatic style. But yes, v good.
