The first time I went backpacking, my friend brought a proper low tech espresso maker and we had excellent lattes. I told him he ruined every other mountain morning thereafter, but luckily everything tastes delicious in that good air. I still bring powdered espresso but tbh it’s mostly cabin camping these days, but we do the minimal forest service cabins. Excellent compromise when the lower back starts screaming if it even sees a tent…

Ooo great question!! YES. We do "dummy checks" now, walking the whole campsite to make sure we haven't lost anything, but I once left a bandana draped across a log. The worst part? If you have the ability to tell this to LMNT.... I'd really like an option to just buy that 8 flavor sample pack at a discount rather than have to buy an entire pack of one flavor to get it free. Isn't the point to try them all to find your favorite, then you can buy that favorite? It seems like they're doing it backwards.

You can email them and ask, they often will send it out as a free sample to get you to buy more. I have POTS and a lot of those in the POTS community have said they reached out to LMNT and they sent them free samples! I love citrus salt and salted caramel chocolate (i have that one hot). If you find it too salty just use either half the package and get an acquired taste for it. I don't find it that salty at all anymore.

I have a feeling if we hiked together we might have too much fun goofing off and never get anywhere. When I hike I am always thinking of crazy things that would make a good video. I will give you one short one: All the various ways of going around over and under trees across trails. Of course each method would need a cool name ie: limbo, army crawl, cowboy etc. You get the idea. I don’t have a good videographer so go for it. Add a few stream crossings for extra credit. One of my least favorites was my leap slip to a rock and fall on butt. Hope I do see you sometime on trail. Happy hiking!

Also, appreciate the LMNT sponsorship. I started using their electrolytes because they sponsor you, and I use them almost daily. Their customer service is excellent, too. I recently took my 4 year old on his first backpacking trip (Elkhorn camp on the Dosewallips) and due to all the googling/prepping/purchasing to get him ready, the algorithm brought your videos to me. Now I open them whenever they pop up as recommended for me while I'm listening to youtube and working. You're so enjoyable to listen to, thanks for sharing your great personality with us! I hope we run into you on the trail sometime! PS, Eightmile Lake was my first ever backpacking trip :) Here's a question I have for you as I am still somewhat of a novice - one concern of mine is that I'll get to my destination and there will be too many people/no where to camp. Is this a problem you run into much here in Western WA, and how do you plan for that? If I was just by myself I'd hike further or turn around and hike back but with the 4 year old he maxes out at about 3 miles so it's not really an option. I was glad I picked such a hidden gem for the first time, but I'm worried about getting screwed on future trips and so far just looking at less popular ones (gonna do Teeley Creek/Granite Lake next as it also seems not very popular/hidden gem). Is the answer to stick to permitted and/or less popular areas?

I think the beauty of "plant based" is that it can be *mostly* plants. I'm largely plant based, but have a history of restrictive eating. @@mwahl1686 I'm obese and working to lose weight to become eligible for the Inspire. I'm not sure if insurance will cover it since my cpap does work for me, but we're going to try to get it covered. That's another reason I haven't wanted to fork over 1k+ for the travel cpap and batteries. I miss backpacking so much. I am curious because I've never been able to talk to anyone with the Inspire - all he needs is the little remote, correct? So, it would be an ideal situation for backpacking?
@mwahl1686
14 күн бұрын
@engineers-daughter yes! He does feel it would be ideal for that. *I* being the planner of the two would make sure that you have a set of extra batteries with you at all times (I think they're like AA or AAAs). The one thing that does cross my mind now, is that the remote comes with a fairly hefty foam surround and cardboard box. When we fly, he puts the foam in a gallon sized zip top bag and leaves the box at home. It's super important to protect the remote. You'll also want to remove the batteries when you're not using it because it activates every time it moves, which will drain the batteries for no reason as you're hiking. He said to remind you there is an initial procedure (you are knocked out) where they determine if you're even a good fit for the Inspire - and that every 10 years they have to replace the internal battery 😔 I hope those details help and wish you all the best in finding whatever works best for you day to day and also to travel with. Even with us having met our deductible and having a lot of it covered, we did have to pay some for it.

To be fair to Miranda, the Baker River Trail is a thing, and the start point is the same as the north start for the East Baker Lake Trail.

How has the floor of the Nemo Hornet held up without using a ground cloth? I just got this tent and the ground cloth is several ounces heavier than any other 1p tent I've ever used! Trying to shave any little bit I can for a strenuous upcoming trip
