Im glad i found this video. I got a juvenile from a convention the a week ago. He said to feed it frozen hoppers i couldnt get it to eat. So 8 purchased a small female mouse and i thought it was having trouble eating eat. I damn near panicked although after a few minutes the mouse was gone but i still saying how i wouldn't feed that big for awhile. She is 6 months old btw. Now i feel better about it all. Thank you

Awesome information. I love that you keep it real on how no specific way is “the right way” but that this is the way you do it. Every animal is unique and you need to figure out what works for each one. The base line needs of each animal fits somewhere within these guidelines but if an animal skips here and there or maybe never wants to skip you can be rest assured that you aren’t over doing it or under feeding if you keep the guidelines in mind.

So I have a 7month female ball python she just ate her first small rat and weights 334.5grams. How often should I feed? I’ve gotten answers of 5-7 days as well as 7-10days what’s correct?
@LandoFishing

She’s also 29inches long. So is she just really long for her age or is the age incorrect because her weight and what we were told from petsmart would put her at 7months?

I would like to add that this is more of a guideline for an established animal. If you have a new pet that won’t eat there are stressors that can trigger food refusal. Ask yourself the question of what were the conditions the animal came from if it was eating well. Some animals prefer eating in the dark or only if the humidity/temps are correct. Another trigger could be dirty environments or too large of an open area (not enough hides.) if it’s in a tank make sure 3 walls are blocked out to give that security. Is you tank in a room with a lot of traffic? Live vs F/t I have a spider ball with a slight wobble that only eats in the dark so I have to cover her tank and make sure she is in a hide. She is unsure of her ability so she needs specific conditions to have confidence in her advantage over her prey. There are many unique triggers that can prevent an animal from eating so remember to check off a list of conditions before letting too many meals pass. In most cases you can contact almost any breeders for help on this subject. You aren’t alone.

I've got a pewter male I've had for a couple months and have literally tried everything conditions are right temps are good. I've tried hides tried dark humidity is good..... Ive tried various size rats.... pups and mice..... overall he looks healthy and is active, but he will not eat....I have 40 snakes and have a handful that are picky, but never had one go this long without eating
