There are 3 primary benefits: 1) Improved tolerance of cold conditions 2) Reduced fatigue 3) Improved resilience to adverse experiences. Cold exposure has been shown to stimulate the production of brown fat (also called brown adipose tissue or BAT), this is a type of fat tissue that is brown from the amount of mitochondria it contains, where normal cells contain one or two, BAT contains an estimated 1000 to 2000 per cell. These mitochondria can be used by your body in cold conditions to help burn fuel to keep you warm, and in doing so they produce ATP which your body uses as energy, potentially reducing fatigue. And, from a psychological standpoint, choosing to endure unpleasant situations like a cold shower can help you build a mental fortitude that lets you be better at enduring other unpleasant situations that are not cold showers. None of these things are by their nature "life changing", obviously, but they are measurable changes that can make a real difference for some people.

It's part of a bigger change, you build discipline and with that you start improving. Everyone can do just cold showers...

I do cold showers every day. Not because I want a big change or anything but because I enjoy it.

I took cold showers for over a year. Yeah I got adjusted to it, but all it did was make getting in the shower every morning more difficult

Cold showers aren’t particularly bad per se if your metabolism is fine. But if your thyroid isn’t working well then you’re just going to spike your cortisol which, if done for a long amount of time, but will have bad consequences for that person

For me it would be repeated pneumonia, bronchitis on this asthma and hashimoto hypothesis i have, followed by waves of freezing episodes without cold showers.... For me, no point, i just start freezing when i tried

I take cold showers for about 2 months now and I've seen the difference even told my girlfriend to do it and she saw huge changes. First change is body odor you don't sweat as much and also your sweat doesn't smell as bad, second you feel always more full of energy and ready to take over the world, third is confidence, fourth is you start being disciplined because of the excess energy you start doing things you wanted to leave to do later, fifth I saw actual changes in my body and musculature, I exercise a lot and I saw that my body feels a lot better now more relaxed easier for my muscles to recover and also I have bigger muscles and better definition at the same weight, sixth I would say sleep, I had hard time sleeping at night but taking cold showers actually made it so much easier you literally hibernate. Personally I had a lot of benefits and I also took cold showers on all my body for about 10 minutes

I had taken cold showers for a whole year back when i was i think 16 but stopped because my finger and toe blood circulation isnt good so theyd turn white by the end of it. Im one month back into them and i like it. Theres nothing miserable about a cold shower, it feels way more refreshing and making it a "no exceptions" is the same way youd grow discipline by always making your bed every morning. It didnt rly change me but i like them, plus its actually better for your hair and skin, since hot water can cause irritation, flaking, etc etc. Not to mention its cheaper on the water bill. And it most likely gets rid of skittiness when going into a lake for a swim, since you get used to just doing it and not playing around. I think it also heavily depends how cold the water you can have running is. Ice baths are a completely different beast. Whereas 12-15C showers cant even be considered that challenging. Its a thing of preference. I do it because i find my own meaning in it. If you dont then thats that, but i cant say i got where all that hostility towards it came from. Also, simplifying it down to just "torture" feels posh to me. Why do anything even remotely unpleasant then?
