This makes me so happy. My mother fell for this exact scam last year and lost fifteen thousand dollars. Instead of a coin star they had a courier come pick up cash from the house. It humiliated and terrified my mom, who is a bright and thoughtful woman. I hope more people learn about this scam and are able to protect themselves and their families.

It occurs to me that when you don't want to hear the scammer, it might be good to turn down the mic or put your hand over the mic, as you do when you are pretending to talk to someone else. In this case you'd be peering at the screen, and only returning to the phone to give him an update, with the volumne coming from distant to near as you start talking.

I was so excited to have my own money for once. Then, a scammer reached out to me saying some pretty threatening and scary things like this, and I panicked & fell for it. The scammer also knew specific info about my family and even knew how young I was & used all that to his advantage. Thank you ‘Kelly & Peter’ for doing what you do. Evidently I’m lucky to be alive & still able to function properly (with minimal confusion) at age 75. I didn’t know this fraudulent and disgusting behavior has become so routine for bottom feeders to use to rob people of their money. I’ve been scammed - and with my sole source of income being a monthly SocSec check, have suffered financial hardships as well as suffering guilt & humiliation that comes with it. Thank you again…😊

A couple of years ago my late father got a call from a scammer pretending to be with a law enforcement agency. He was told that his teenage grandson, my nephew, had been arrested in a nearby city, and they needed $5000 to bail him out. The scammer mentioned him by name and everything. Fortunately my dad was living with me at the time and told me about it immediately. At first I thought that it was a serious situation and hurriedly called my brother, who assured me that his son was in fact at home, safe and sound. In my panic and concern I didn't take the time to think that something was off, but my brother mentioned that I was probably a scam. I was relieved that my nephew wasn't in serious trouble, but I can see how an elderly person with no one around could fall for this.

Told them I was in a car accident from reckless driving and was telling him that I wanted him to bail me out and not tell my parents due to embarrassment. Anyone who tries to contact my mother to tell them I've been in a car accident is going to be in for a surprise. One, I spend most of my time with my mother, since we live together, so if one of us is in an accident we probably both are.
