This is an incredible series concept with a great execution and subject! Whiplash is one of my favorite movies, and I think that first shot of Miles Teller slowly ramping up his drumming is the perfect build-up to the drop of the rollercoaster that is the rest of the movie, so it’s cool to see Chazelle bring it up and offer his own perspective :D

Babylon was uneven (some truly bizarre choices in direction especially in the last hour), but Chazelle is still one of those directors I will be there day one to watch a film from. His visual eye for shots is just outstanding and elevates simple stories into such beautiful cinematic language. Hopefully someone can at least tell him “no” his next film though, I think he works better under the constraint of some control and input.

Yup, too bad for that ending montage. It's completely on the nose, much too aggressive totally unnecessary. Even without it last act feels way too drawn out, but with some better editing I think it would be much better. Here's hoping for an editors cut, maybe then it can get the love it deserves.

Damien is such an incredible director. The amount of praise Babylong deserves set against how it actually did is huge loss to the industry: it clearly deserved recognition and the fact it didnt get much is a testament to how awful things have become... This seems to tie into the importance of marketing (as much as i hate that...). Id love to work with this guy someday.

We’ve been so spoiled with streaming movies in the covid era that people really feel entitled to every movie for free. This is why theaters are dying
