Good morning. I just found your KZitem channel yesterday starting with your tour of your property where you are wearying your cowboy hat 🤠. Beautiful… you and the land. I followed up by watching 2 more videos about the “campers” and your plans to sell your house and move on the land. This morning I saw the video where you and your husband talk about how you will apply permaculture to your land. I love this!! Now watching your video on gardening. You both seem intelligent and methodical in your approach to the upcoming challenges and changes to your families lives. We live in Moorpark, CA in Ventura County just north of Los Angeles on 1/3 of an acre in a suburban home on a hillside backing up to the wilderness. We too are attempting to apply permaculture principles to our city property… with terraces, rain water catchment, cover crops, hillside gardening and more. It’s not easy. A few recommendations: KZitem Channels: 1) Growing in the Garden with Angela. From Mesa, AZ she is a master gardener who is growing far more than you can imagine in her suburban backyard. She would be an excellent gardener to follow for your area. I noticed she plants out at least a month earlier than I can in my zone… so I feel she would be a good mentor to you in your area. 2) Gardener Scott out of Colorado has a not only United States wide but Worldwide following because he shares the the How To’s of gardening and not When You Should Plant Dates (as many KZitemrs do). He recognizes that each area has its own challenges and limitations and when possible gives advice to help overcome issues. A retired Air Force pilot and trainer, his attention to detail and simplicity to learning process makes him very interesting, enjoyable to watch and learn from. He also interviews other people on other Gardening KZitem channels and gets different perspectives from around the US and World. On Monday mornings, 8:00 am Pacific Time zone he has a 90 minute Livestream where there is a general topic, but you can ask questions and give your opinion/suggestions on other people’s experiences/gardening issues. He also puts out 1-2 videos a week. He would be a good resource for you and your husband as he has some experience in your area too. I hope this will be helpful. We will be following your journey.

First thing i learned when i moved from Mississippi , where everything grows crazy ....to hot dry central Texas ? Full sun does not mean full Texas sun . Raised beds under edge of trees where only one half of a days sun is a must . Shade sails work too. When i quit being homesick for the plants that will not grow here ? I started to find a few things that survive here... Still learning new things every year 💪

I live in southern Arizona. Our Monsoon season starts July. 2023 it was late and started in August. If you are able to have barrels to catch water safely (so that wild animals do not get into them), this would be good. 2023 heatwave damaged and destroyed lots of plants. Cactus were dying from too much heat and not enough water. My suggestion about growing plants in Arizona is to live on the land for a good year. Take detail notes about the weather, temperature, rain, hail, etc...then plant. Southern Arizona has 3-4 months of cold weather and at night it dips to 40°F. Then 8-9 months of hot ➡ Sahara Desert type of weather, with rain, Monsoon and dust storms. Northern Arizona has similar and also snows. Arizona has sand termites...meaning termites live in the sand. Permaculture may not work well in Arizona. I container garden. Whatever type of structure you build for your home make sure you build it on concrete slab(s). You will need to spray the ground when you see termite track marks or they will eventually make their way into your home. Remember that Arizona is a desert state. The way I explain it to people is ➡ think of the Sahara Desert now build your life.

Thanks for the mention and I really hope you enjoy the book!😊 I will have to check out those other two you recommended, and I'm definitely excited to watch the permaculture design at your new place!

Awesome. It would be interesting if he could combine that permaculture certification with the waterstories pond building certification. Both those together would be a powerhouse of knowledge.

I have been gardening in Las Cruces, NM for about seven years. I am still making mistakes. I have never come across a channel that understands all of the challenges we face trying to garden here. I am thrilled to have come across this video. I look forward to learning from you.
