I only left Jamaica 8 years ago and in the visits I have been back its almost like its a different place. Lots of things have subtly changed. Still the best natural places to be in the world but some disappointing mindset issues have taken over the people. I notice she said alot of people have been unsubscribing from her channel in the past when she talk about things. I am not surprised. That's one of the biggest thing I notice. Its like all of a sudden Jamaicans have become thin skinned and sensitive. Jamaica is a lovely place but crime and customer service have really gotten super bad. I love being there but always have to be watching out for robber or gunman on bike. And customer service experience has just gone to the dogs. The workers literally behave like you are begging them to serve you at most places. They don't care about their job or the reputation of the business. And I am a quiet polite person that don't trouble anybody and will just let things slide most times. The last time I went to a place in sovereign the girl was trying to serve me a piece of chicken that a fly pitched on. That I could not let slide. I told her 2 times I don't want that one because I just saw a fly pitch on it. She ignore me two times. The third time I raised my voice loud and said I don't want that one because a fly pitched on it. The girl kissed her teeth and roll her eyes and tell me I going to take it. I had to laugh to myself. I started to talk loud and tell the manager that I want back my money. I just collect my money and leave. And I used to buy food from this place all the time when I lived in Jamaica. They just lost a customer for life that they basically had for life. Over nothing. And they don't even understand how this impacts them.If the company lose customers and the employees lose them job, them going say life hard and them just have bad luck.Another incident I went to the drive through Tastees on boulevard and I had my card to pay and the girl was holding the machine in a way that my pin would be visible when I enter. I said to her can you give me the machine so I can enter the pin and give you back. She kiss her teeth and say loudly sir enter the pin nobody not looking. lol. I had to look on her and wonder if she righted. I tell her is ok and cancel the order and drive off. I still go back to that Tastee but they lost a sale easily over nothing. So many other incidents I could tell. If you make any comment on social media about any negative thing happening people start to cuss you and talk about other places have crime too. Or other places this and that too. But I don't care about those other places. I care about improving Jamaica and stopping the bad things that are happening there. How will Jamaica improve if we don't identify what is going wrong and fix it? Its really sad if the only way we can cope is by comparing ourselves to other places.

I was in Jamaica in August for my birthday. I was so surprised that the resort personnel was so incredibly rude in spite of how polite we were to them..to the point that I withheld a few tips and I am a very generous tipper. My sister finally went off a guy. He went on to explain how horrible it was to work for the resort and how badly they were treated. Although I felt bad for him, I still don't understand how that led to him/them treating us (meaning BLACK patrons) badly while grinning for "others" who didn't even tip! Talk about self-hatred projected...

You are a blessing! I had to do the same thing in NCB and this was about 10 years ago. Big Monday morning and one teller. The manager waliking around doing nothing. I had to ask her why the bank was not prepared for business. She couldn't tell me. I said so why don't you take a teller's counter and start helping that one who was going so slow? She can't do that. I cursed just like you. You are building and need material, people waiting on you and these people are so unconcerned. The best part, you should hear their quarterly profits...billions. This is while we, their customers, suffer!! The government is complicit andbtakes no responsibility for the running of this country. Don't get me started on FLOW. That is for another day!! You are right sis! I talk to my Jamaican mother about this almost every time she and I speak. The GenX, Millennials, and whoever comes after must start caring for that country. It's gone down since the 90's when I was a kid. People in Jamaica treat the island like someone's going to pull up a new island next to it in a few years and we can just hop over to the new one. There needs to be general agricultural courses in schools. Oh, and schools... school should be minimal cost or free. A country who doesn't prioritize education for it's youth is going to fail!

Well said my fellow Jamaican lady. I live here in the United States. I moved from Jamaica in 1981. I was just there in December 2022, and again in June of this year 2023. And you are right that the touristy areas Are well-maintained. When I was in Ocho Rios I went to the local ATM. There was only about four people in line. And we had no issues getting money out of the ATM. But I’ve always heard that Jamaica ensures that the areas frequented by tourists are well taken care of. And while we need tourism, in Jamaica for Jamaica to flourish, Some of that energy needs to be put into helping the people. Where is all that tourism money going?

Wow! That's crazy. In the UK 🇬🇧 there are ATMs practically on every street corner and plenty of actual banks 🏦 within walking distance. There are so many ATMs that you don't even need to queue up to use one. In fact, since COVID, no one seems to use them anymore as most people just use their contactless debit cards 💳 or use their mobile phones (contactless card details stored on the mobile phone)📱to pay for everything anywhere they go, even on transport like trains 🚉 taxis 🚕 buses 🚌 etc.

You are sooo right!!! Black folks in general always speaking up for the foolishness and never things that we really need to speak up for. I always speak up for stuff to, and write letters and threaten to tell my attorney. hearing this makes me appreciate America. But I feel like when you going to a predominatly black country and living there, u either have to live a real plain simple life kind off the grind, cause if folks expect to live like how they live in America, they are in for a rude awakening. And its truem they would never treat the tourist and the white people in this manner. Colonism and slavery has taught us that they whites are better and they have the made, and they are certainly not better, now do they have the money-YES cause they stole it from us

AMEN ! People here talk about reparations but if they got them, it wouldn't make it to the next generation. There are people who had land, homes. Families get it and can't wait to sell to the first white contractor that comes by. The money is gone before the year is out. They love to loot and riot but never come together for good. The only people that I see that constantly compete with each other. As soon as they learn to talk, it's hands on hips, neck rolling, talking down to each other. There's no loyalty with most. You did a great job. Hopefully, it'll last. If not, you may need to go to the ones where the tourist are !

Its a very sad situation about Jamaica. I was there last year and needed to renew my passport. I spent the whole day going from one person to the next just to get my passport renewed. The online system no matter where i took my photograph was not accepted online. Jamaica is nice but the political bureaucracy and red tape in public service is chronic. Its nauseating and past frustrating. I just couldn't understand i have dual nationality and i got easily renew my UK passport online without no stress. Just to do simple daily business in Jamaica as a Jamaican is extremely exhausting not even if you paying money. The people responsible for making the changes for better never have to join a line because they always know someone who puts them at the front and that is why Jamaica can never be better.
