You could use side loading bottle cages OR Fidlock twist System, it's magnetic. No frame filling bottle cages but small magnetic bases to attach the Fidlock bottles onto. Up to 800ml each. I really love it.

Great video! I am not planning any ultra distance races like yourself, but got some good ideas from seeing what you've packed for potential summer bikepacking adventures. Those restrap straps look like they might be just what I need to secure an old randonneur front bag I have. Also good to learn about the DotWatcher site. I was interested to know how many days you expect it will take you for the race? Also, this is kind of a random question, but on a trip if you stay in a hotel, do you find they generally let you take the bike into the room or would you be required to leave it locked outside somewhere?
@Buzzalong.cycling
2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks for your comment :) totally recommend the restrap straps, the best i tried so far. I was aiming for 4 days to finish the race but is good to setup small goals for every day like getting to a certain point. In the Netherlands, most of the time they let me bring the bike into the room, but in other countries like Belgium and France some hotels let you bring it in and others asked me to leave it in a garage or locked room. For bikepacking trips I bring a bike bag so i can pack my bike as luggage and take it into the room, really good option to ensure you dont have leave you bike outside.

@@Buzzalong.cycling Many thanks for taking the time to reply so thoroughly! That is helpful re the restrap straps--I have never used any such straps so I will take your word on it! I know you always carefully compare pros and cons of gear too ;-) Wow four days is almost 500k each day--good luck! I can imagine it is important to break that down, although your small goals would prob be big goals for me! That's also great to know re bringing bike into your room--I thought it might differ according to country alright. I'm in France so you also covered my location! ;-) That is a great tip on the bike bag--I had not thought of that. I was wondering about situations where they don't want you to bring in a dirty bike (which I understand) but they don't have any locked place so your bike could be out on the street. In that case I was wondering do I need my heavy duty D-lock and cable, which instantly add quite a few grams. But the bike bag would enable you to get round that and just bring a smaller lock. (Zip tie style lock in your video also looked handy I must say.) Well, thanks again for coming back on my questions and all the best with the race! Look forward to seeing how you get on.

Hola, Super nice Video, I came across your channel as suggestion from KZitem and it is great!. I would like to suggest a video from the ultra races... more a bout things tha nobody mentioned that can be a bit "personal" but interesting and useful like: Do you change racing clothes or do you wash it... when you go through the night do you stop for small nap or you just carry on... and how is the sensation with tiredness. would it be nice if you have like strava to link the efforts-route to get more insight of the experience. (your are already given many!!). thanks a lot. excelente trabajo y contenido!

Great video and cool setup :) How did you like the Cyclite top tube bag as compared to the Apidura Racing top tube bag? My concern is that the Cyclite bag is too wide and will cause leg rubbing - did you find that to be an issue?
@Buzzalong.cycling
2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks :) I did not have rubbing issues with it, but is definitely wider than the apidura racing top tube. You can find a full review of top tube bags on my channel, i did some test regarding leg rubbing ^^
@kajlovich
Жыл бұрын
@@Buzzalong.cycling I tend to ride with my knees very far to the inside (I can't help it, that's just the way my legs work...), so I am bumping into my top tube bag all the time even with the Apidura, so I guess then Cyclite is not for me? Even if I'm riding my bike without any bags, my knees are making my top tube all sweaty by rubbing against it all the time 😂

Nice easy set up - I'm still working on mine, 17l tail bag, frame bag, top tube bag and repair bag, soft handle bar bag, food bag either side of the stem. I use a pedal cell for charging and carry a 20k mAmp and 10k mAmp power bank. Aero bars (so easy on the hands) garmin 1030, 3 x 750ml water, salt tabs, magnesium tabs, have carried sleeping mat, sleeping bag and bivvy bag for audax but for racing would use motels I think - less gear. I ride my touring bike (Mongoose Randonneur) for longer distance and my road bike for shorter (say up to 400km) audax.

Hello, Why dont you use a Hubgenerator? I love em. As long as the weel is turning you have light an power for your navigation. So you can safe weight because you dont need so much powerbanks. Take the "Son Nabendynamo" with the "Edellux II" light and the "Busch & Müller E-Werk". Perfect combination. ( and works until -45 Degrees ) Flori
