I have '72 with an L24. I just found an L28 in good condition with a 5 speed trans I may buy. I'll rebuild them both and slip them in some day. Thank you for the sound advice about engine builds. I like torque and stay away from high lift/duration cams myself. I'm glad I found your channel. Keep up the good work.

Hi , my old 2.7 junker motor ( L24 block and rods, L26 crank, L18 pistons w 110 thou cut off, balanced ) would rev to 6500 and hit a brick wall. It turned out that the flame was getting blown out , I changed the plug gap from 32 to 28 thou and to would rev clean to 7500 rpm. A little tuning tip.

I will try that! I have always thought a 292 cam should rev higher but accepted the way my motor behaved as fact. I run an MSD 6AL but I guess if the gap is too much it’ll get blown out. 🤔

Pretty nice and helpful that you give the motivation behind why you chose each part. You got a new sub

Great info as ever, I've just picked up the same block and head to build for my 240Z. Have you had it on the dyno yet to get final figures? I've got similar goals to break 200bhp with my build.

Mark Woodrow I haven’t got it on the dyno as yet in the current state. Hopefully it’ll make more than the 170rwhp from back in 2017.

This is a great video! I'm planning on doing a budget build as well and your specs are somewhat similar to mine. I'm not sure if I missed it in the video, but what is your compression ratio with the flat top pistons and the 44.6cc chamber? Also, have you put it on a dyno? Last but not least, because I'm putting the L28 block in my 240z, is having it balanced worth it and will it allow me to have a slightly higher redline? Thank you!

My static CR is around 10.5:1. My dynamic CR is 8.06:1 with my camshaft from memory. Balancing a bottom for RPM is cheap and normally costs no more. Mine was balanced to 10k RPM for the minimum fees. Breathing (head, valve train, camshaft) is the limiting factor for RPM ceiling and becomes expensive when you start targeting high RPM ceilings. Yes I have run the car on the dyno in April 2020. kzitem.info/news/bejne/lWebm319sGlhqH4

Might be a silly question but I'm building a similar engine (with itb's) and wondering what can be done to make the engine sound more 'metallic' like the fugu Z. Less of that deep v8-ish burble, more of the NA v6 sound. Any insights there?

I do not know how to modify a SOHC motor to sound like a ITB DOHC motor sorry. Since this video has been made I have converted this motor to ITB EFI myself. Videos are on the channel 👍

Do you need a ld28 crank? They are not really available
@kyushaspeed

A LD28 crank was cheap and in abundance back in 2007. Definitely not today. I believe there are a number of alternative options available today. I have seen billet cranks as well as offset grinding cranks to give the required stroke.
