So what I gather from this is that most likely the motor already had some damage to the piston or sleeve from before the dyno, as you suspect mostly caused by the leaking injector probably messing up the AFR and making the other cylinders go lean, and then the dyno run just put the final nail in the coffin, is not the first time I see this thou, and I have learned that you have to check the motor thoroughly before doing or testing a new tune, a few minutes checking could have saved the motor. You live and you learn, stay strong and keep rolling, we all learn through this hard moments.

You must have missed the part of the video where I said a few days prior to the dyno session I logged the car and it looked and felt perfect. We believe it was injector failure. No one suspects there was any damage to the piston or sleeve prior to the dyno. Direct injector failure is common on this platform.
@krnt13

@@VancityAudi I understand that, but from my experience if you inspect the pistons prior to the a dyno session you will find a lot of surprises I have saved several engines that way. Add more ring gap next time. With worn 45,000k forged pistons, there was likely blow by to the rings, when this happens the rings get hot, expand closing the ring gap, the ring then ceases against the cylinder wall, takes chunk out of the wall and/or piston and melts the piston.

Direct injection on daza operates at a maximum of 2,100 psi. normally if you run only e85 and the car sits for weeks at a time, you have to have the injectors cleaned before every racing season. e85 does tend to block and mess with injectors over time and this is on any platform. I would suggest buying an injector cleaner and cleaning them twice a year. you got lucky that sleeve took the damage and saved the cyl wall of the block. Also, change your fuel filter and check your fuel pump strainers before every racing season, e85 crystalizes and or gums up in things.

I'm so sorry Adam!! I really felt bad for you when I saw this after the b9 vid. I know how you feel man, my old Honda motor was fully built and sleeved sent from Florida to Cali for some Golden Eagle sleeves. All fully forged parts, my engine blew up 3 times, twice during tuning the AEM EMS and once a year an a half later after running great. Still to this day I have no clue why it popped on me while driving normal. It sits in my garage with 35k worth of upgrades and will probably never been driven again because my money is now spent else where. I did however go to a larger piston each time I had to bore the cylinders out when it blew. I know you mentioned doing the one which would be nice and easy but each time you over bore your putting in bigger pistons and increasing the liters. If your current motor (BTW I HAVE NO IDEA ON THE RS3) can handle a larger bore with bigger pistons, could take more boost then maybe it can take and make more power in the end?!? Just a thought, if the sleeved block can be over bored to a certain point then it might be worth doing to see what you can push out of it. If its no better then unfortunately its time for a new block and back to the norm.

Hey van city Audi!
