Very common in Canada (at least where I an from). Especially before you have kids. They hope for grandchildren but still see you as if you were their own kids so mother you a lot. That’s what I have experienced with all my mother in law.

I’m a Canadian with a bad back lol anyone who visits us before we eventually have an actual guest room does so with the understanding that THEY will be on the couch. Or… they are welcome to our top-tier air mattress. It makes it through at least half the night before it starts deflating itself under you 😎👍

I work as a midwife not in Canada and just want to say that it was the Canadian manfriend of the grandmother that stood in the kitchen and cooked the placenta with carrots and potatoes for the new mother to eat (nothing against eating your placenta, it has a lot of benefits. I‘m just saying preparing it like any old piece of meat is another level of hippie badassery).
