Very common in Canada (at least where I an from). Especially before you have kids. They hope for grandchildren but still see you as if you were their own kids so mother you a lot. That’s what I have experienced with all my mother in law.

My son is in his late twenties and when he was about eight years old he came home from school and decided he was vegetarian, on a routine trip to the doctors i mentioned it to him, my son was around three or four days into this, the DR asked him why he felt that way about meat (all i got out of him was‘just don’t wanna’) my son’s reply to the DR was “I don’t want to eat anything that had a face”. Apparently a new tutor at school was showing the classes videos on animal cruelty and such in the farming industry. That was soon shut down when the parents started to find out and the vegetarianism lasted about a week. Can’t have Sunday dinner without meat and gravy 😉

I work as a midwife not in Canada and just want to say that it was the Canadian manfriend of the grandmother that stood in the kitchen and cooked the placenta with carrots and potatoes for the new mother to eat (nothing against eating your placenta, it has a lot of benefits. When we (me and my husband) go visit my mom in California (we live in France), she's kinda like this, lol, she doesn't have a big house and gives us her room to sleep in (she fixed it up so it basically always looks like a nice guest room, lol) and she sleeps on a spare twin in her sewing room. And man does she spoil us, but it's mostly because she only gets to see us once a year at the most. But she stopped with the baby questions once I turned 40, lol
