"because I'm bored" is the most relatable thing. people seem convinced that sewing is cheaper than buying new. but with exploitative labor practices that produce most of our clothes that's only true if you can make things that look like they cost hundreds of dollars and also you think your time is free. you gotta factor your own enjoyment in there otherwise the whole thing isn't worth it. you have to enjoy both the process and the end result. so you gotta drop things when your interests move on.

@@CorneliusQuiringwhether it is “cheaper” to make clothes compared to store-bought depends on what kind of ready to wear you are comparing to what you make. It also depends on which garment you are comparing. Store-bought clothes generally don’t fit as well or last as long as the ones you make. That coat you made would cost at least $200-300 in the store, at the very least, and cared for properly, it will last for many years. Those jeans you made fit you probably a lot better than ready to wear, and those will last. The shirts, perhaps might not be cheaper to make. But the quality is a lot higher, and the shirts will last better than ready to wear. Sure, you got bored and wanted to move on- but you won’t have to make a coat for a very long time, and same with the jeans. It was a great experiment and the results were good. And now you know what garments you like sewing, and what garments you actually need, to have a basic wardrobe. If you need more shirts and jeans, you can wait till fabric is on sale and make more later. Same with jeans. Personally I think boredom is overrated as a reason to stop doing something, especially if it is only a small amount of boredom that gives great results- a good trade-off. Big questions are: do you sew because you enjoy it, out of need to have more clothes, or just to prove you can do it? Good video.

Claire - yard sales in affluent areas are a primo place to score quality low use machines. I got a pfaff tipmatic 6150 for $25! Take someone who knows about machines because a dud will cost $100-$200 to service but its a good way to get a starter machine. Old machines are mechanically often better than new ones. Other older machines to look for are the Husqvarna Viking 415 and 425 good luck

Would you consider doing Project Runway type challenges (if you haven’t already). Ex. Give yourself a fun challenge (unconventional preferred) and a price and time limit. Would you consider doing something that isn’t necessarily fabric…like, let’s say…paper or garbage materials? ❤️from Winnipeg

All three Corns, you are a great teacher and an entertainer. You, more so than other people, know why you make clothes for ypu. It was partly a want to, but I believe it was a great aggravation with store bought items that were generic and would not fit you. You told us , and showed us, that your arms are not the same size, nor is the rise of each shoulder the same. Your history makes all the sense in the world, as to why you sew your own. Big warehouses have big budgets and mass output. They can make decent quality cheaply, because they don't pay their employees well. You know all of this. Your time and knowledge are worth a great deal and so are you. Do things for you and your family, for your happy. Happy Thanksgiving.

Great conclusion to the series. I love the honesty in your videos. I'm paring back my wardrobe too, basing it around the theory of modules by Chrissie Resel (she has a KZitem channel). Each module three tops, two bottoms and one topper that go together to make several outfits. Then you can mix and match as many modules as you need.

Honestly, any ol' machine will do. Both of mine are ones I picked up used. The most important thing is does it work and is it cheap? If so, it's a great machine to use to get started. Then, in a few years once you get good at sewing, you'll know what you want and why. Hope that helps.
