Since adopting Bootsie in January 2022 when he was 4 months old, he's been suckling on a super comfy, velour-like bathrobe I have whenever he's next to or on my and I'm wearing the robe. He eventually falls asleep, and clearly the behavior is of a self-soothing nature for him.
I figured I would try getting him his own "security blanket" which is seen here. It is a plush "toy" in the shape of a cat, and it comes with a small audio box in the head of the cat which I took out for Bootsie's purposes.
This soother is called a Pur Pal and it is made by PetStages. I ordered it via Amazon, and it arrived yesterday. The moment I brought him on my lap and showed it to him, he latched onto it immediately. Now, tonight, he's using it to suckle all on his own. :)
Hmmmm.... For anyone who have or have had cats who suckle past their first few months of life, can this be a life-long behavior for the cat, and can this pose any harm to a cat? (Of course, I'm making sure he's not injesting the material he is suckling on.)
