She's the standard that I hold others to lol. She's a good teacher too. I've learned enough that I think i can refinish an old school child's dresser with mirror. I've got it stripped! The challenge will be the little spot that needs some wood added to a drawer front. I think I can do it lol. I would've never tried before, been toting it around for 20 years since my mother in law gave it to me for my daughter.

I'm a luthier and from time to time I have to do custom shapes such as replacing finger boards. My method of copying shapes is to use a card scraper from lee valley, not the thin ones. I trace the shapes onto the card scraper and using a dremiel tool, cut out the shape I want. I then put an angle on one side (very carefully) and add a burr. Using chisels, I bring it down to size, using the scraper as a template and the end job is to use the scraper as a scraper to finish the final shape. Hope you can understand my explanation. As a former Windsor resident keep up the good work. (I hope you have air conditioning in your shop).

Beautiful carving Trena. As I was watching the process I wondered if there was any benefit to creating a jig ##cough lasercutter cough## and re-dowelling all of the leaves and table for consistency. But then you said a leaf was warped and I suppose the inconsistency adds character. Do you agree?

For just a couple dollars you can get some alignment plugs, they come in sets so you put the right size in the hole put the two pieces together and it will leave an indent where you need to drill for your pin. I have two sets one is about 1/4" inch long the other is 4 1/2" inch long. After years of lining every thing up by eye, now I couldn't live with out them as I only use dowls or all my wood working.

Oh, this comes just at the moment that we have been thinking about a new leaf for our 150 year old dining table. It is 5 ft wide and can be extended to 20 feet. One of the leaves was attacked by worms many years ago and is basically useless. I have been thinking about making a leaf as I have a router bit that will do quite well, but the leaves are nearly 2 ft wide and I would have glue up at least 2 boards and I don't have a planer, etc. I would love to have you do it, in case you are planning on coming to Europe some time in the future! :-) Thanks for another great video.
